I never really liked any Tim Burton films. He's good and everything, but a bit overrated IMO.

the lead character's name is "Barnabus Collins", so there's a better than average chance that it's (loosely) based on the old soap opera

edit: actually, I think I read somewhere that the actor who played the original Barnabus has a cameo in the movie

You're forgetting about his supporting comedic role as the Police Captain/Bed Bath and Beyond manager in the Ferrell comedy The Other Guys.
