If the Miners can get enough assurances that he won't face any 'AA sanctions from the OJ Mayo investigation, Tim will be returning to the school where he began his career as an assistant to Don Haskins.

This would be a great hire if Floyd won't be sanctioned. Any idea what the likelihood of that is, Hat?

I'll be very surprised if Tim receives any sanction from the 'AA. The only obstacle is timing. I can't see the 'AA giving him a clean bill of ethical health separate from their release involving the USC AD as a whole. That puts UTEP and Central Florida, two schools that would love to hire Floyd, in the tough position of trying to get wink/wink nod/nod assurances that no problems are forthcoming.

Apparently, Tim and Billy Clyde have both gotten clearance regarding their, for lack of a better word, baggage. Got a text from an AAU coach telling me that one will get the Houston job, the other the UTEP job. He's just not sure which is which. It's his opinion that Houston has first pick.

Nice...That will be a huge + for Conf. USA if everything works out.

The man deserves a job better than that.
Why not go back to where you started to finish your career? It's not like he needs the money or wants to deal with the the BS surrounding a job in a BCS conference after the SC mess.

Looks like some issues arose during an interview in Dallas yesterday that may prevent Floyd from taking the job.

i guess if todd boseman can get a job anything is possible.
Considering Floyd is going to get a complete exoneration by the 'AA Committee On Infractions, not sure why that comparison holds any validity.

what makes you think he is going to get a complete exoneration? at best he had a massive error in judgement in chosing to deal with mayo and his handlers. we know the worst. personally i didn't think tim could be this stupid, but SC thought differently (or wanted to save the football program).

SC didn't fire him, Tim quit. He, like anyone else with an IQ above 75, tired of dealing with Mail Order Law School Grad Mike Garrett. If dealing with the Rodney Guillorys of the world is a "massive error in judgement" pretty much every program who recruits elite players is lacking in foresight.

if he quit (and yes i know he officially resigned) he definetely needs to hire a new PR firm. garrett will get exposed sooner rather than later though.

guillory already had an SC sanction to his credit, so this isn't the normal handler situation. floyd had to know if this blew up that it would look bad.

I don't disagree with that and have told Tim as much. A PR firm is of no use when you have been ordered to keep quiet by the 'AA and the bosses you are negotiating a settlement with.

Hat, just out of curiosity, how do you know so many coaches?

And if you don't mind clarifying the situation, did USC, if not Floyd, do something wrong? I know Garrett was trying to save football, but why would he punish the basketball team so seriously if nothing was wrong there?

very few SC alumns care about football (take a look at their pitiful attendance). they'd probably eliminate the basketball program to save the football program from major sanctions.

Various ways. Once you get to know one coach, you often get to know the guys he associates with as well.

USC allowed Rodney Guillory, a shady agent runner, to be around the program because of his relationship with O.J. Mayo. Guillory had already gotten SC in trouble with the 'AA when Jeff Trepagnier was in school. In that regard, they should have used better judgement. Garrett thought serving up basketball would appease the 'AA overlords and get football a walk. He didn't count on Tim showing up at the Infractions Hearing and raising Hell and protesting his innocence.

So you're saying that the self-imposed punishment is for something that didn't actually happen. I know USC is football first but that's a sickening move by an AD.

That is most certainly my position. Allowing Guillory to be around was, at most, a secondary insitutional vioaltion. It certainly didn't merit the sanctions Garrett imposed on KO's guys.
