Well, I've been so-so on going to Portland State football games, but the University just hired Jerry Glanville as the head football coach. I should go check out some good ol' gritz blitz.

Jerry Glanville? Isn't that a downward move from D-Cord a Hawaii to head coach at D1-AA? Well looks like Jerry Glanville will have his hands full with a yearly game with Cal......wait they don't play this year. Cal is stepping up in the world actually playing 12 D-1A games this year. Kudos.

I suppose a move from coordinator at a mid-major to head honcho at a D-IAA program is more of a lateral move.

Concerning Cal, a game against a D-IAA school is fine when you have other good non-conf games like Tennessee and Minnesota on your schedule. It's a different case when you don't have any tough non-conf teams... Take Auburn's 2004 coulda been national championship season, for instance. Louisiana-Monroe, The Citadel and Louisiana Tech. A regular murderer's row. Or Georgia who hasn't left the south for a football game in umpteen and a half bazillion years.

Back to D-IAA nonsense.

Okay I'll give them that but just the whole D1-AA. I'm sure they could have hooked up with some cellar dwelling WAC team.

As far as it being a lateral move, I don't know. Anything that is Coordinating and above at a D1 school is better than head man at D1-AA school. Of course I'm talking in terms of building a career. Glanville is done, he might just want to see what he has left and don't want to do it in the national spotlight. If he was late 20's or early 30's I'd stay at Hawaii and take over June Jone's spot and turn them into a DEFENSIVE MONSTER. I jest.

I've actually seen a few good 1-AA games. My brother lives in Boone, NC and has tickets to App St. They actually play good football.

No, it's OK for Pac Ten schools to face the IAA schools. Besides, I'm sure Portland State is an excellent football team on the verge of Pac Ten membership.

The grits blitz baby!
That's what I'm talking about.

I bring up a D-IAA coaching change and all of a sudden SEC fans are making fun of another conference's non-conference scheduling practices. That's like a coffee drinker getting told he's got a drug problem by a crack addict. Yes, tid, I've got this stuff comitted to memory. No asinine remark goes unanswered. It's what happens when a west coast guy has to post on an SEC board. It gets relentless enough to the point where dealing with it is a habit.

Absolutely nothing... I loves some football, either way. PGE Park is just across town, time to get myself over there a couple times next season. UC-Davis, NAU and Montana State ought to be good games.

I live in Delaware, Ohio and we have Ohio Wesleyan University.

I love going to their basketball and football games.

Poor guy. I don't know why you put up with it. Maybe after Ainge graduates, you won't have an excuse to have to deal with such ignorance.

Oh, ho. There are better teams to bandwagon on than one coached by post-'98 Phil Fulmer. The high school mate turned my attention to Tennessee football, but it doesn't mean it's the only thing keeping it there.

You can make fun of the Georgias, South Carolinas, Floridas, and I think Auburns on the whole scheduling of D1-AA, but Tennessee hasn't played a D1-AA team in over 20 years. I think I read that right in the KNS during Air Force week. The Air Force game was a last second pickup and they had the choice of them or some D1-AA's. I also think the 20+ years is one of the longest in the nation of not playing a D1-AA team.
