It seems that Strong and Fisher will decide to stay where they are, and Gundy isn't going anywhere. I've been wrong before, I just can't see that dude leaving OSU for Tennessee.
Now, we can stay on the track of looking for a "proven" HC, or we can change-course and look for a promising coordinator. At this point, we aren't going to land a successful HC, it seems. I'd rather hire a guy that may or may not hit it big than a guy with HC experience, but has proven to be mediocre.
Immediately after the Kentucky game last year, I brought up the name Greg Roman while others were talking about Kirby Smart. Since then, others have jumped aboard the Roman bandwagon, but I think this is really time for the AD to consider it.
Even if we don't consider promising coordinators at this point, we will have to change our thinking on who we're considering. We can't keep dropping our standards on the search for existing head coaches, so I say either go coordinator, or suck it up and hire Bobby Petrino.
I'm just afraid we're about to start hearing names that we have to look up on wikipedia.

Not sure Strong is staying. If Uzt offered I'm pretty sure he would leave in a heartbeat. But Fisher and Gundy arent going anywhere and OK ST can keep Gundy.

Yeah, Strong is turning down UT to stay at UL. That is strong, concrete information. Oh wait, no its not.

DC, Ellis Johnson, Butch Davis, Randy Shannon or Sal Sunseri (sarcasm)...

Sorry Misread the OP, these would be my Coordinator choices for our next HC...

If you say "coordinators", that will automatically open the door for Hart to say "Smart". Be very careful.

Expanding the search to coordinators is certainly interesting, but when could one actually take the job? UT needs someone soon, given the recruiting situation.

I'm just going on the report that he promised a recruit this weekend that he's staying. Sure, he could still leave, but that's just being a punk to do something like that.

I cannot remember the last time Tennessee hired a HFC who was remotely familiar to any of us. For example, I had never heard of Kiffin and the only thing I knew about Dooley was that he and Vince have the same last name. Fulmer was just a promotion and Majors was a legend. I think Bill Battle was also a promotion and he was an Alabama guy. I had heard of Doug Dickey. I'm originally from South Carolina and I had always associated Doug Dickey with Tennessee Football. That was way back when Tennessee beat Alabama on a consistent basis. That was back when the Defense could usually score as many or more points than the Offense. If it is possible or even probable, that's where I want to see Tennessee head with it's coaching hire! I want to see a Defensive minded HC. I believe the most successful HC are even Defensive-minded on Offense.

Not sure I totally buy that story. I have not read the article but did Strong himself say that or did he read it or get told by an assistant. I find it interesting Strong himself when asked will not even address the question, no denial at all publicly. If hes going to tell a recruit that, why not tell reporters and be done? Strong is leaving, its just a matter of where.

Strong better jump ship now. He has 3 openings in the SEC with Tennessee obviously being the best ; ) but if he wants in the SEC now is his time.

Exactly, the press conference today pretty much solidified him leaving. I mean he had tons of chances to say he was staying. He went on to say how disappointed he was in the fans not showing up for senior day and for the Card walk. He also said basically that new facilities are needed. To me it seemed like excuses for him to leave. On the other hand it could be to force a raise but I really think he wins up at UT.

Anyone else on-board with considering a coordinator, yet? If we refuse to look at Bobby Petrino or Jim Tressel, we absolutely have to consider guys like Greg Roman, Chad Morris, or Kliff Kingsbury.

Why not offer Justin Wilcox? Yes , he left us to go back to the west coast, but why not ask him to be the hc in Knoxville? The guy held Stanford to 13 points and USC to 24. Just overlook the fact he gave up 41 to LSU and 52 to Oregon. He's a good, young coach on the rise and can recruit. We can keep the offense where it's at now and just make changes to the D. I think he's worth looking at.

There is a reason all those coordinators left under Dooley. I don't think Wilcox will want to come back, he's a west coast guy.

Why not consider Chaney?

His offense has been very productive, he is undefeated in the SEC as HC (lol).

He has showed loyalty and ability, originally brought here by Satan, er, Kiffin.

The recruits and players know him and his system. If he gets a decent DC, we are in business. We should be putting our efforts finding a great DC instead of this less than amusing road show.

It's too bad that UT's best efforts are only leading to other HC's getting big fat raises at their current school.

What a mess. . .

Nah, he should do to USC first to be the DC.
