Does anyone know what the timetable is for them as far as announcing if they will go pro or stay for their senior year?

January 15th is the deadline to declare...But I think there is also a date that you cannot declare before a that certain date...could be wrong.

2014 NFL Draft: Underclassmen deadline set for January 15 - CBSSports.com

EDIT: There is no date they have to wait on to officially declare. They just cannot sign an agent and continue to participate in Collegiate activities.

I'd like to see them both stay, but for different reasons.

AJ could really help staiblize a defense next season that will be very young up front.

Tiny just needs another year to eliminate silly mistakes that will have him on the bench in the pros.

I'd say Tiny is gone no matter what....Even with his flaws this season.

AJ on the other hand I think could go either way.

I know this sounds bad but Ill be happy to see a bunch of these guys go and start fresh with some new players and new attitudes.

The latest SI mock draft has Tiny at #30. I can't remember how many tackles are head of him--three maybe? Not as many tackles in the first round as the last couple of years. I would think that, if he stayed, Tiny certainly has the potential to be a top 10 pick next year--and there is a big difference in money between top 10 and late first round. But his draft potential next year is a complete unknown, and meantime the prospect of getting a few million dollars now might be too compelling to turn down. Not sure what a number 30 pick gets in NFL bonus money.

Just for the sake of comparison;

Last year in the 2013 draft they had 4 tackles go in the top 15, and 5 overall in the 1st round.

Eric Fisher (Round 1/Pick 1) - Signed 4 year/$22.19 million dollar deal, fully guaranteed. Signing bonus $14.518 million.
Luke Joeckel (Round 1/Pick 2) - Signed 4 year/$21.2 million dollar, fully guaranteed deal. Signing bonus $13,799,344.
Lane Johnson (Round 1/Pick 4) - Signed 4 year/$19.853 million contract. The deal included a $12.8 million signing bonus.
D. J. Fluker (Round 1/Pick 11) - Signed 4 year/$11.4 million contract. The deal included a $6.6 million signing bonus.
Justin Pugh (Round 1/Pick 19) - Signed a 4 year/$8.34 million dollar contract. Only bonus I see is a $385,770 roster bonus.

Okay let's assume he does stay at the #30 pick, last year that was Alec Ogletree. He signed a 4 year/$7.03 million dollar contract which is fully guaranteed. Including a $3.492 signing bonus and a $344,319 roster bonus.

He could be looking at losing around $15.160 million if he declares early and falls out of the top ten vs staying for his senior year potentially going in the top 5/10.

Yes I am a draft junkie.

My guess is that A.J. stays another season and "Tiny" goes.

Yesterday, I saw a mock draft on the ESPN website and "Tiny" was projected at # 37. Of course, a good showing at the combine or the right team taking interest in him could move him up to the 1st round.

Also the advantage of declaring early would be a quicker route to his next contract/pay day. What he has to consider is what if he busts or gets injured? Then he would be left with only they money he got from his initial rookie contract.

I haven't started my draft prep but they really have Tiny sliding out of the first round? :eek:hmy:

According to an ESPN draft notice from the weekend, he's no longer in the top 5 for OL. Whether that means he's fallen only to 6th or further down than that is unknown.

That's crazy. Just based on his raw talent alone should make him at least a 1st rounder.

Like Tiny's love for UT and hope he returns.

If I have no $ and you wave 7 million $ my way - I'm gone regardless of how many more million $ I might get to remain broke for another year.

A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush - Just sayin.

I tend to agree with this line of thinking.

I understand if he wants to go. Do I think another year will make him better? I honestly don't know. People keep forgetting that the offense we play is much different than the offense played in the NFL. Had we stayed a pro-style offensive, I think Tiny would have had a much better year and would be a first rounder for sure...And if we were pro-style and he stayed, he would definitely get better.

The fact that we are a spread offense, an offensive scheme that Tiny wasn't used to when he was recruited, could stall his improvement in college. Either way, I think he will be good in the pros.

Yeah our offense is completely different from NFL unless he goes to. Seattle, San Fran, Philly or Carolina. Oh never mind the spread has come to the NFL already.

What if he busts or is injured during his rookie contract? There are pros and cons to each choice.

No body in the NFL plays the old-school pro-style offense much any more.

I'd take the 10+ million any day and I think Tiny will too. The risk of injury and less than 10+ million or nothing is just to great.
