Ok, as you all know we're ranked #1 in the first CFP rankings this season. And before I get into the tinfoil stuff, yes I whole heartily agree we should be #1.

Tinfoil would be that the CFP committee only put us there so there would be an almost guaranteed new blood in the CFP this year, Bama OSU UGA and Clemson have been basically owning the CFP the last 5 years. And they want a new team there. And we're the team that makes the most sense to have as the new blood.

With the #1 ranking, even if we lose a close game to UGA, we won't drop behind Bama, and then either OSU or Mich will lose, moving us back into the top 4 almost guaranteeing a spot in the CFP.

Being #1, outside of just being an amazing feeling, is a strong political statement in favor of Tennessee, which is rare I know, that they WANT us in the CFP. This could be due to a lot of factors outside the fact we're an amazing team. Our fan base travels and spends money better than probably anyone in the country. We're the media hype this year, HH is the Heisman leader. Several other players are major award leaders. It's just good marketing and money making to put us in the CFP even if we lose to UGA.

This is all very tin foil, and probably dumb, but I was thinking about it all morning haha.

None of it matters though, WGWTFA this Saturday and beat whoever crawls out of the west in the SECCG!!

It we end up losing 1 game and we get in over undefeated Clemson, you might have a point. This early, though, it doesn’t really matter. It’s nice being number 1, but the results of the game Saturday are much more important.

If we lose, a few things need to happen for us to still get in.

1) Needs to be a close loss

2) Georgia needs to win the SEC

3) Ohio State, Michigan, and Clemson all need to lose a game.

This team has 100% earned this ranking as of this time as they have beat some quality teams, but Georgia is going to be a big test as you can only play who you have scheduled out to this date.

Can Tennessee beat Georgia? Yes, they can, but is it going to be a walk in the park? No.

I think that the worst game Tennessee has played this year was the Pitt game as they just didn't look sharp, but they pulled thru and won. I get it that the Pitt QB got hurt, but it was the Tennessee defensive pressure that got to him and knocked him out of the game, so it's not like Tennessee got an advantage from another team.

All in all the true question is have we seen the best game that this team is capable of playing? I can't answer that question, but I do know that this team is capable of playing at a very high level and hopefully that continues thru this weekend.

Yeah I'm not saying they don't deserve to be number 1, just looking at the politics side of it with my tinfoil hat.

Yeah us just winning this Saturday is the mist easier route tbh because Clemsons schedule the rest of the year is a cake walk and Michigan and Ohio state won’t both lose 1 game only one team will have a 1 loss record while the other one will for sure be undefeated

Only really clemson does, OSU and Mich one of them will lose the head to head, and 2 undefeated teams is fine, UGA and OSU undefeated, TCU and Clemson taking a loss, Mich losing to OSU, and we're in with zero problems.

I think TCU is all we have to worry about but they got such a low rank I'm not sure we even need to worry about them, I think we're in with one loss.

A close loss to UGA and UGA winning the SECCG and we are in. No worries. Our schedule is too tough to be left out. Only bad thing would be that we could be in at #4 playing #1 UGA again in the first round. Would hate to lose to those aholes twice.

They'll drop us below bama if we lose. I don't think they're taking us serious at all. I think those north and west people don't want any SEC in the top 4, especially more than one.

Thise voters don't care about schedule. Too much bias

Yes but as we saw last year it's hard to beat a team twice. Bama destroyed uga in the SECCG and then lost in the natty. Honestly losing to uga and not having to play the SECCG might not be the worst thing, but yes we would have root for uga to win the SECCG because if uga loses to bama and both teams have only 1 loss, both get in over UT.

Honestly any scenario in which Alabama gets squeezed out of the final top 4 ranking pleases me immensely.
Only thing that could be better is for us to beat UGA and play Bama again and really breaking their spirit this time.

Very much agree. I am more worried about beating either LSU or BAMA twice in the SECCG than losing to UGA and not getting in. UGA has to win the SECCG if we lose Saturday or UT has to win out and SECCG. Totally awesome year to even be talking about it. Hopfully our schedule gets us in with one loss regardless so long as the loss is close.
