I've been reading TMQ for years now, and Easterbrook is hands-down the best media on any sports anywhere. Once a year he has this all-unwanted team, you can read about it in his article here.

TMQ's All-Unwanted All-Pros celebrate players who were undrafted, waived or both - ESPN

It just got me thinking about recruiting and the stars argument. Some of these guys were walk-ons in college. I love this edition of his weekly NFL columns.

Anyone else out there a TMQ reader? What do ya'll think?

I've always thought the stars factor was grossly over-rated. Think about this...nobody spends more time, effort, money, expertise and knowledge on evaluating players than the NFL. On top of that, they have the added advantage of watching these kids compete for 3, 4 or 5 years in college. However, the league is filled with free agents and 6th round draft choices who become starters and all-pros.

Yet many of us on this site and others like it think these rating services who devote far less time, effort, money, expertise and knowledge than the NFL is all-knowing and gospel. To me, it's crazy and makes little sense.

Find yourselves proven recruiters such as Saban...and DD fits that mold as well...and you'll build a winning program in no time at all.

I'll take the Sabans and Dickeys of the world...you can have Rivals and Scout.

Good point on Saban, I think it's well documented that their Championship team was built on low rated guys.

His first championship team had a number of lower rated holdovers from Shula who played critical roles.

Great coaches very seldom follow the ratings of Rivals or Scout... but Rivals and Scout very often follow the interest in players expressed by great coaches.

I thought Ingram was a 3 star with one of the services? I don't remember which. I only rememeber this because people were bringing it up when he won the heisman.
