'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

“Nolen sucks because he couldn’t single handily take on Maryville’s offense”

I really hope he doesn’t come here. Don’t deserve a talented player like him. Only UT fans would talk **** about a player that we have a gooooooooooooood chance to get. Never fails.
Make sure the Nolen's know it is just one guy who is apparently more of a fan of a high school program than of TN.

So is it your belief that an interior defensive lineman isn't elite if he can't shut down a team's offense on his own?

It's my belief that the #1 player in the country should be impressive in person. All I saw was a big dude who ran out of gas every other play.

I've got a pretty good feeling these comments are from people who are not Vols fans. If they are, they are sadists.

Name a high caliber recruit you haven't gushed over in the last 5 years. Talk about carrying water. You have zero ability to have objectivity when it comes to the Vols. Zero..
Hunter Johnson.

He looked bad under pressure, very slow. He did hit a wide open receiver over the middle tho without any pressure

Boom! Get some!

This thread has turned into some of the dumbest $h!t I've ever heard on VN, and that's hard to do. Maryville won last night. They are a perennial state power in the highest classification(6A). They are supposed to win big against a 5A school, and a defensive tackle (highly rated or not) wasn't going to change that outcome. So now the kid is a bust, because him TEAM got beaten badly by one of the two best teams in the state? If he was in shape and made a few more big plays, the game still ends with a similar outcome. There are extenuating circumstances here, so the only question should be is whether or not if an in shape Walter Nolen is one of the best interior defensive linemen in the country? I think the answer to that question is yes, because an out of shape Walter Nolen completely owned possibly the best team in the state on multiple plays. Many should be thankful he is out of shape. Otherwise, your star running back may have been lost for the season, and that's just being realistic.

They're an excellent team with discipline and good coaching. Nolen probably wouldn't play for them either if he showed up overweight and out of shape.

Lol Walter Nolen would not be riding the bench for Oakland. I can 100% assure you of that. He'd be on the field and in better shape

There are zero individuals saying he sucks. That being said, the greatest defensive recruit in the country ought to command a double team every play. Did anyone here see John Henderson against Maryville in the 1997 state championship? UNBLOCKABLE even against double teams (and Maryville had monsters on the OL that season like Chuck Prugh, Isaac Simmerly, and Nick Black... all big talented dudes). Against Nolen, Maryville stopped double teaming him after the first quarter because he was not a threat. That's why Maryville's rushing took off in the second half. They could allocate blockers to other defenders and the 240 lb. white kid with a mullet could take care of mister 5* by himself. If Nolen is the best DT in the country, then the 5'-9" 240 lb center for Maryville is the best OL in the country. How do you square that statement?
5’9 240? You talking about the dude that has an ole miss offer?

Riggs wasnt a 5 Star imo. But def a mid to upper 4. Kid showed flashes. Maybe just a tad slow but when he wanted too he turned it on.

That game vs Auburn he was mean.

That run to beat Corndogs...dude was a beast. He was always in Fulmer's dog house is why he didnt get more touches. In a lot of ways he was as good or better than Ced. Ced did little things.
Riggs ended up near 2k rushing for TN including a 1k season and would have had another his Sr season if he played more than half the season.

Last time I saw him I think he said he was coaching HS in Alabama. Really good dude.

He does need to get in better shape to handle the heat and humidity…. He is an elite talent though…. It is why maryville was trying to recruit him.

So you agree with me? He wouldn't be playing at Oakland if he was out of shape and overweight?

My point is in a good program like Oakland, he would be in good shape, but no I don't agree that he wouldn't play. He absolutely would. A smart coach doesn't get a talent like Nolen and throw him aside because he's out of shape which is basically what you're suggesting. A competent coach works to get him in shape and plays him in spurts until he's ready to be out there every down.

If he can't play more than half the plays in a series, he wouldn't be starting for Maryville. I don't know what else to tell you.
But you originally said he wouldn’t be playing, not that he wouldn’t be starting. And that’s just dumb. Sorry. No way in the world you can convince me that a kid that naturally talented wouldn’t play at Maryville.

Hey Trip you notice the game last night was sponsored by Pilot?

Only UT fans whine and b*tch over a 5 star recruit. 😂😂😂

"Only Maryville fans whine and b*tch over a 5 star recruit"

Because the mighty Maryville Rebels beat him, they have to gloat about how superior they are. We get it, Maryville is the greatest high school program to ever exist. George Quarles trods the gilded path of the gods, etc. etc. It's just exhausting.

Hope we get the kid. He's probably not in shape. Who gives a damn if on one night he didn't look superb. He may have an attitude issue.

Guess what? A hell of a lot of high school superstars have attitude issues, don't always give 100% effort, and have off nights. That's theoretically why you trust your college coaching staff to break their egos, demand their effort, and give them the tools to succeed. I believe Garner can do that, primarily because he's done it his entire career.

really triggering some people saying Nolan looked overrated.

You do realize high school kids have to adjust their bodies to get ready for the college level.

That’s what a college weight program is for. This is why there’s such thing as position coaches which Rodney Garner is considered one of the best in the business.

Derrick Brown was out of shape whenever he got to Auburn and turned out to be a 1st round draft pick in the NFL.

You calling him overrated just shows how much you really know about football in general.
