I’m really surprised you can’t see how it’s grown into quite a bit more than just, “he looked overrated.”really triggering some people saying Nolan looked overrated.
Both can be true. I’m not one saying he’s not the best. I don’t know that. He could be #1, he could be #5. I just know he’s got a lot of talent but not good conditioningThem: “Nolen doesn’t play like the #1 player in the Country. He’s not even the best defensive player in the class.”
Also them: “How dare the staff let an instate player go elsewhere!”
Anything to twist their narrative. Pretty pathetic.
Ok it has been fun playing the heel Maryville homer for a while. I'm going back into VN hibernation. Everybody enjoy the season.
People don’t seem to understand the difference between he’s not good and he’s out of shape.I wonder if Nick Saban is going to withdraw his offer after he hears about the hard-hitting analysis of these mega high school football fans
Nobody has denied that. He's the best player in the country who didn't go through summer workouts. He'll be in shape shortly, and no one will be talking about this anymore.People don’t seem to understand the difference between he’s not good and he’s out of shape.
He’s awesome! He dominated in camps. He’s recruited very highly and wewant him.
BUT he’s out of shape and it’s affecting his performance dramatically in games
Uh, the guy I replied to seems to think “some people” think they’re better than evaluators than coaches and he’s not worth recruiting. I don’t believe anyone thinks thatNobody has denied that. All I know is that I would rather have Nolen play for us than against us...
Aiden Edwards OG 6'7" 265lbsThey tailored the playcalling for sure. Still, they had plenty of inside zone runs where Nolen was still a non-factor (and a couple where he made the play). And I don't know which player you saw blocking him, but the one I saw was not anywhere near the measurables you described. 6'-4"? I didn't see anyone out there as tall as Nolen except two of Powell's offensive Linemen. And after the first quarter, he wasn't double teamed other than standard combo blocking, which is what Maryville would do to any other DT not named "Walter Nolen".
You spent a good deal of time rationalizing and explaining it for it to have solely been clever hyperbole. My "he wouldn't play" remark was somewhat tongue in cheek. Though there is precedent at Maryville for their best defensive player to quit the team due to not being able to pass the mandatory conditioning test. Granted, he wasn't a 5* recruit, so who knows what Quarles would've done if he had been.
Walter Nolen probably has more scholarship offers than the entire Maryville football team, but he wouldn’t play there. Got it. Guess high school fans are the real talent evaluators and not college coaches.
and you would expect a fan to be excited they are getting the #1 recruit. Nolen will be fineBut you would expect a dominant interior player to stop the interior runs, yes? He didn't (with the exception of a couple). Maryville ran inside zones in proportions that aren't that far off from their normal game plans.
