I still predict TN will end up with the number 1 class as Lane Kiffin said. What I would like in this thread are thoughts on the EE class, and how that impacts the final class.
TN signs 27 only if they assume they know every single player gets past the clearinghouse and they have no one with questionable academics. If that is the case then Broussard and some others will get dumped and it explains why Irvin is ASU bound.
Read this about a five star LB from last year who decommited from USC to go to ASU:
USCFootball.com recruiting analyst Gerard Martinez reported.
I had a chance to catch up with Corona (Calif.) five-star linebacker Vontaze Burfict today. Unfortunately, it looks like unless he has a change of heart, Burfict will decommit from USC and commit to Arizona State, Martinez wrote on one of the sites message boards.
At this point, he says hes 60-40 ASU, but I think that number is closer to 80-20 ASU. He gave his visit to USC pretty low marks, although ASU only received a 8.5. The Sun Devils coaching staff has him convinced he wont make it academically at USC, and he felt like that was a concern not properly addressed during his visit last weekend."
I believe that we can start to assess when we have a few more players fall into place what our final class will look like.
If Tyler Bray comes in and looks bigger and stronger right off the bat, I think the coaching staff will pass on Simms and Cam Newton. A QB controversy for the future face of the team is not needed.
If nothing else, EE means we can put to death the Scroggins rumors. That guy has broken more message board hearts than any prospect I can remember, but in January when he is safely getting used to the bench he will sit on for 3 years we can finally let it go.
Guys who I think go to other schools like Scroggins who we can quit pining over by Jan 1 include Kyle Prater, Ronald Powell, James Hurst, Rob Chris and Tyson Chandler (who I cannot believe are going to both be a part of an otherwise crap class at NC State that includes Fre'Shad Hunter as the only other player who we would take from them) Dorsey, Matt Elam and the one that hurts the most...Jeff Luc.
Our Early Enrollee guys come in. At that point on campus at UT you have:
Jacques Smith DE
Jose Jose OL
Tyler Bray QB (EE like Stafford, Tebow and Jacory Harris Recruiting: Impact of early enrollees - AthlonSports.com)
Channing Fugate FB
Brandon Willis DT
Corey Miller DE
Pat Harris DL
Matt Milton WR
I do not think it is difficult at all to predict that we get Dietrich Riley. I am going to go out on a limb and say we get Leifheit and JaWuan James (who can help us bring his HS QB on next year) as EE. Morgan Moses is also a possibility and I believe he is an EE.
After we get our Early Enrollee class in, our board will be much smaller for the reasons described earlier, but we will also have momentum with lots of participants in the All America games.
James Stone is not an EE and if we miss on the guys I talked about above we press hard for him.
Damien Robinson is also not an EE.
Arie Kouandjio has us in his top 3 with Miami and Alabama and is not an EE. I will be shocked if one of the previous 3 guys is not at Alabama. I am hoping it is Stone which means we get Robinson or Arie K (whose little brother looks absurd). I was lots more excited about John Cullen before it turned out he could not enroll early from JC.
Chaz Green has parents who went to UT, I do not believe he is an EE and we are battling Florida for his services. He wants us to win more games than last year and have a stud recruiting class around him before he commits, which is still possible.
TN is in it for lots of 4 and 5 star guys who are not EE. How much room do we have? Depends on who decommits.
Marques Pair has a coach in Sorrells who is a UT fan and we do not want piss off the Sumter program, but I still believe he "decides" to go to UNC or another school.
Broussard is an academic casualty probably.
Delvin Jones, J.C. Copeland, Ralph Williams (academics)?
This opens up the door for us to try at RB for Lattimore to come with his teammates, Bernard to come with his, maybe Gore as a burner at RB or the guy I want most who is likely Auburn bound in Dyer.
I think we will use lots of the 3-4 spots available on LB. Our depth there is not great and it is such a key piece for Monte's defense to succeed.
I am looking forward to our EE and I think that success in the first recruiting class of this football season will lead to success in the second as well as good results on the field next year as guys contribute as true freshmen.
