I really think UT is over the hump both in schedule and with their "identity" problem that keeps creeping up.

Schedule
The toughest opponent left ont he schedule is ND. However, Notre Dame has given up copius points this year and landed their defense deep in ranks of Division I. Tennessee's D is top 10 nationally and they have given up few points...only 1 TD all year...the rest field goals. An pvious point, but ND is the only challenge left on the schedule

Identity
Tennessee has had since the beginning of the season, an offensive line that dreams are made of. However, for whatever reason, the coaches were disillusioned into thinking they were USC and could wing the ball all over the field with a highly touted, yet underachieving WR corp and QB of limited capability. This has been their undoing so far this season and cost them every game they have lost so far. They have had to change the line around to accomodate more of a spread offense look. That changed in the Bama game. If not for 2 fumbles, UT beats Bama 17-3 and that would be considered a rout given the way both D's played. Ut now knows that when they are in a power I formation, they can run on anyone in the country. Having said that, UT is going Trick-or-Treating at home on SC this Saturday dressed up as the '95 Nebraska team where although you know they're going to run, there is nothing you can do but line up and take it like the smallest guy in prison.

Bottom Line: Relax...UT will not lose another game this year :bottom:

Gave up a TD to UAB, gave up a TD to UF, gave up 3 TDs to LSU, gave up TD to UM, gave up 2 TDs to UGA. I count 8, not 1. I think you are thinking about passing TDs allowed. But I don't argue with you that our D is one of the best in the nation.

I only counted 6. Sure, you can count that 19 yard TD run against LSU (after AInge coughs up the ball after being sacked on a QB blitz). Also, the last LSU TD was against Ainge and that wonderful underhanded interception.

I think he means 1 passing td all year.

Yep..that's what I meant...I knew I should have qualified that statement, but I was tired and didn't want to go back and edit. But, ya, 1 passing TD. I didn't think that was too bad considering our secondary was supposed to still be suspect this year. Also, did you notice how Croyle got his clock cleaned on every single 3rd down snap? That is VERY exciting to watch and reminds me of a lot of the late 90's defenses we had. I just wish like prolly everyone that all this would have happened sooner in the season...like spring!!!

Appreciate the sentiment of the entire initial post and can empathize as I am a Gator and feel like offensively my team is reeling right now, full of self-doubt and frustration.

But until either team shows me something for two weeks in a row, I'm sticking to my impression that they just aren't very good (realtive to what was hoped for, anyway).

I don't think ANYONE in VolNation thought Clausen or Ainge was going to take us to 12-0 this year. But, having said that, I have had the 2006 campaign circled as the year to go back to the promised land. The schedule gets more favorable, the offense gets a year wiser, the defense is still in good/great shape and Ainge will be ready for the big time. Don't sweat Vol fans...2006 has always been the year to look forward to.
