TN- UGAly Game Thread

aww man, i wanted a throttling... cant let them get the easy baskets..

go vols! great win. i only wish i could have heard it on sportsanimal's net radio, too bad it just cut off during the 2nd half.

Best possible result for me.... I think

They're talking up the improvement in our D, yet, UGA is mostly an outside shooting/ speed team like us....

Hopefully they learned something for the brutal games coming....

Anyone ever hear how UF-MSU ended up?... That one sounded encouraging for us (that, and the fact that we beat UGA just as bad)....

florida won 75-60

Yeah.... sorta. They are basically a less talented clone of UT. Same style, size, heart, etc., just not at a place right now where they could keep up with us for 2 halves........

So was the UT/UGA game ever in question? Georgia any good?

eh we had the lead most of the game and the never really had the game close in the second half... georgia has really only beaten arkansas who just lost to lsu by a couple points....

UGA couldn't have beaten Ark... it says they are 0-2 in the conf???

Anyway, I disagree they're a clone of us... they have more big men inside than we do. Not that they are highly talented, Bradshaw was guarding them most of the night, and they got shut down in the second half... but they do have more big guys than we do.

UGA definitely hasn't played Arkansas. They have a pair of double digit losses to us and Florida.

someone beat arkansas.... i will find out who i was thinking of then...

oh ok i was thinking alot of the florida game and got miss state and georgia's schdule confused. my bad everyone!!

Well, the "clone" comment comes from UGA's breakdown of the game from yesterday. Basically, their top 6 scorers are either guards or wings, they like to play 3-4 guards, and they prefer a wide-open speed game and outside shooting....

Sounds familiar to me...

They do have some bigger guys in the middle, but their center only averages 4 per game, and they end up being more distractions than tools. In the end, UGA's biggest difference from us is that they play better traditional defense, they rebound better, they have less raw talent, and while they prefer to shoot from the outside or on fast breaks we do it better.....

I understand MemphisVol, but tonight they had 2-3 Forwards on the court most of the game. They ran it a couple of times, but our ball pressure forced them to try a half court for most of the game... and finally, especially in the first half, a lot of their points were comming in the paint. So while you were speaking from the scouting report on what UGA has been doing all year, I spoke from what I saw at the game tonight.

You got to go to the game and you didn't do a on-the-scene report thread you putz!?!?!

Give!

It sounds like you are exactly right (though their "wings" are small forwards)- how would you handle it if your normal game was a less talented version of your opponent's.... try to take advantage of their weakness in the paint...........

hehe OTS report... hmmm... I guess if I had a way to post from my phone... Hey freaky, how about making the site WAP enabled?!?! hehe

Anyway, you are totally correct MemVol. I'm sure that's what the game plan was, and it was working for 20 mins... the D got far more tenacious in the second half. It was also difficult for Lofton to find a shot, and when he did, he was missing badly. Worst shooting I've ever seen from him, and he still had 16! (it got better late, namely when he hit the two threes in a row... the first one was a fade-away from about 2 ft outside the line. Unbelieveable shot)

Our ball pressure really got to them late, and Wingate stepped up under the basket on D.

Back late and time for bed, but here's my quick on-the-scene report:

UGA ran a similar game-plan, and again, aimed to shut down Lofton. It was fairly successful for a half, but we heated up in the second and found ways to get better looks at the bucket, especially inside. Even the "little guys" did some good underneath, but UGA had little to defend with. Their inside presence was about as non-existent as ours.

Wingate actually had 2, count them, TWO, offensive rebounds in the same possession. Our pressure D continues to frustrate the opponents. Jujuan and CJ had some nice looks. And, Lofton had a couple of big buckets in the second half, although he was held scoreless or close (2?) in the first half.

Great crowd, lots of excitement, and all in all, probably the most fun I've had at a UT hoops game. If you have the chance to make it to TBA to watch Bruce-Ball, take it. You won't be disappointed.

Lofton was shut out in the first half... but those two threes in a row were HUGE, especially the first one. I'd like to have film of that shot, dang. ESPN keeps showing this Reddick shot from last night, but Lofton's was easily as good.
