'24 TN WR Amari Jefferson (Alabama commit)

,,, and who do they think they're kidding? Like nobody saw it? Everyone knows that he is going to announce his commitment to Alabama tomorrow. Is it really that big a deal? They act like they are safeguarding a trade secret or something.

It would tickle my heart if CJH has a guy agree to strategically pull up his date to tomorrow or the next day to cut down on the embarrassment of the Orange CCC, the Can't Close Crowd. Wanted him because the staff did, but I am not worried about them running out of Xanax.

I would rather see Amari pick up a Bama hat and sling it across the stage. We deserve one of those moments.

I’d love to see Tony ruin it more than anything. But this is giving kids respect. Yes it is turning the other cheek at this moment but in the future it will give us greater respect with other kids.

Agree. It's the right approach. And in the transfer portal era, it is especially smart.

You know, I'd go out on a limb and say that this staff and atmosphere and culture are fairly different from Alabama's.

So if the Alabama way attracts a certain player, then maybe he really wouldn't fit in and be happy or productive here. I don't have any problem with players sorting themselves out. It benefits us as well as them.

Negavols are delusional mf'ers. There's no embarrassment.

Buh bye AJ. Think he will ultimately look back and feel silly for being enamored with playing for an evil elf senior citizen who is slowly going on he downslide, but I’ve been wrong many times. We’ll see.

Have no doubt at all that we will be perfectly fine without him. We could use guys like Ross and Nwaneri way more than Jefferson.

Question. What’s up with recruits being able to get them to take their crystal balls down? Kinda defeats the whole purpose.

The whole “let the kid have his moment” thing is so silly to me. Obviously a lot of recruits want to have their “moment” now, but it just seems like a lousy attempt to create a surprise to have a crystal ball taken down.

Everyone knew Russell was headed to Arky just like everyone knows Jefferson is headed to Bama. If kids want their commitment to be a surprise, my advice to them would be don’t announce a commitment date, don’t do any interviews. and tell your people to keep their mouths shut (or better yet, have your people spread that you’re going to school A when you’re really going to school B), but I digress. To each their own I suppose.

I think the reasonable leverage the kids have is when they themselves have told the analyst what they are going to do in confidence. At least that is the case I imagine that would justify that their request be honored. Otherwise it makes no sense. Not that people generally make sense. Flashing the prediction and then removing it seems like a kind of sophistical workaround imo.

Yeah, if the kid tells a media member in confidence “I’m going here”, I think the media member should at the very least be cryptic about things. However, I think it’s also a little silly for a recruit to tell a media member where he’s going and then not expect that media member to take the scoop public. I’m a self confessed dullard, though, so what do I know?

Tell me, @bigl3327, and answer me in the "Football Talk" thread if this is too off-topic. How do you understand the recruiting implications of further B1G or SEC expansion. I'm thinking of Clemson, UVA, VT, UNC, GT, etc. And also FSU and Miami.

I think the SEC is in a position of power right now at 16 teams. It also seems to be the upper limit if we are going to realize the dream of everybody playing everybody home and away regularly. But if ACC teams were to decide to run for the exits like the Pac Rats just did, our team seems to be in an almost unique circumstance because these candidate schools are on our border (except for the 2 in FL) and in rich recruiting territory for us.

If they joined the B1G, that would mean B1G teams playing in our side yard on a regular basis, which seems like it might help B1G frontrunners to get constant exposure to our targets. On the other hand, if the SEC were to absorb them, we would have border schools with the sudden benefit of being in the best league in football. Whereas being SEC is currently a big advantage for us with recruits who want to play the best competition. What strikes you about this situation? And no need to respond immediately.
I don't see a feasible way for the B1G to absorb all those schools successfully. This is turning into a big fk'n mess, with the SEC standing solid and smelling like roses right now. I get what you're saying about the border schools but what's going on in the PAC12 is a huge positive for us in recruiting the areas out west IMO. We already made inroads into Texas with this current class. As far as the border states..... Until someone consistently dethrones the SEC, we will continue to get the lion's share of talent. I just don't see the two super conference thing ever happening, and the only way for the B1G to expand like that is to have a second conference do the same. Especially after all the planning and effort it took to achieve the 12 team playoff. All this realignment kind of crushes that model.

That's a new anomaly happening this season. It defeats the original purpose for having the crystal balls. I honestly don't think it has anything to do with letting kids have their moment. More to do with "check my stats" for the analysts. JMO though.

After replying to you, I saw that the CFP committee is already rethinking the 12 team model. Next season could be total chaos in college football. I'm so glad that Coach Heupel has stabilized our program. It appears to be happening at the perfect time.

Nah. I'd rather not see a kid do that. Kinda classless. Just nice to see a kid who's grounded and respectful to the programs who recruited him. Thank the respective suitors for recruiting him then announce where you're going. No sense in posturing for this curse we refer to as social media. Humility is a good thing.

Baylor School has been a blank hole to us lately. Missed on that OL who picked Ole Miss 1-2 years back too.
