It does not mean he was not that good. It means they missed on the rating, for whatever reason. Maybe he didn't camp, maybe he was on a bad HS team, maybe he had a terrible QB throwing to him. I am not saying he did not develop here; he absolutely did. But, he was not a rando 2* that we lucked into. Somebody on the staff at the time saw something they liked and it worked out awesome for us.You are missing it. Take Tillman. He was barely a 3* coming out of HS. His draft projection was likely undrafted. 4 years later he goes in the third round after college level coaching. Does that mean he was Mia-evaluated? No. It means at the time he wasn’t that good. But after college coaching he became much better. There is no way to legitimately go by what you are saying to see if recruits were accurately ranked coming out of HS. The only way you could do that is if every player was developed buy the exact same coaching staff.
Tillman played at Bishop Gorman in Nevada. One of the top programs in the country. He also had one of the top QB recruits in the country throwing to him. I think he was injured his junior year though. Our coaches didn't have him on their radar at all. He was a recommendation from Coach Helton's brother at Southern Cal. They had evaluated him, but didn't have room. We offered and he committed without ever seeing the campus or facilities. It does not mean he was not that good. No, I am not. They have four ranked teams. It is still NJ HS football.
