I don't understand why I haven't either. Being a VOL fan really sucks. We are an absolute doormat. I think there must be a bunch of hard headed people like me who just won't quit and on some level enjoy the constant torture of being a Tennessee fan. Maybe Butch gets "it" maybe he doesn't but I bet he doesn't get that we have been living in SEC heck for 6 years.

We have learned how to lose and accept it over the last 4 or 5 years. Last night we played the entire game not to lose. Look how we moved the ball down the field the last two passes of the game. If we had played to win we would have done that more ofter. Yes, I realize we could have might have had more interceptions . However, we might have had enough points too win also.

Part of the last drive yardage gain was the fact they played 20 yards off the line of scrimmage to avoid the big play. That last drive was not how Vandy played all night. I do agree we should have gone more vertical during the game instead of the constant flair passes out to a WR that was immediately tackled for no gain. We must have run that damn play 10 times and it NEVER worked.

After the 2 early picks no doubt the leash was put on Dobbs and we played the rest of the game not to lose. Vandy gift wrapped it for us and we refused to take it.

I remember going hunting when I was young with a family friend who was a usce graduate and huge fan. He always wore his gear and talked about them. It didn't matter to him that they weren't very good most of the time. To him it represented a chapter of his life and an area of the country he loved. I haven't seen him in 10 or so years but have thought about him recently regarding our respective programs. Things come full circle. We'll be back again one day. In the meantime all we can do is wait and continue to show support. Our support isn't based on believing we have the best program. It's based on being proud of our school and area of the country. No other sport in America more closely ties a fan base to their school like college football. And if there's some consultation... Last night I was disappointed but it didn't ruin my night at all. I've kinda become numb to losing important games. Who cares.... I'll still always be a vol!

Im with you op. I thought i was numb to the losses but that pitiful display of football last night really got me. I couldnt believe that jancek couldnt call a play to stop the backup qb from running. I dont think he even threw a pass. After the auburn game i shouldnt have been surprised though.

Im not even gonna talk about the offense.

I really lost a lot of confidence in our coaching staff last night.

Im way to invested in what some 18-22 year olds do on a football field though. I let that game ruin my night and i havnt done that in a long time. Ive got family that wont even watch them any more and coulndt understand why but after last night i get it. They were perfectly fine and i was mad as he** all night.

I am 70 years old, and I have been a devoted fan since 1947. I remember the dark days between Gen Neyland and Bowden Wyatt. I remember the dark days of Wyatt's drunkenness and the time until Dickey was hired. I remember the horrendous team Majors inherited from Battle. This seems like the darkest hour, because it took so long for somebody to get the nerve to fire Phil after he retired on the job. We have been almost a decade with no coach. But, we will get through this, just like we did all the dark times before. Butch may not be Neyland or a sober Wyatt, but he will build a winning program. Maybe he won't win championships, but he will win ballgames. Our history will always drive us.

I know why I haven't because I'm not a quitter. Sucks to be a quitter. Sucks for you.

There have been fans that gave up before the season, during the season, and will be as we end the season. What we need is for all these folks to get off the wagon and pull for another team, please. I don't want to hear or see any of these people coming back around when things start going in the right direction. Please get lost and go sulk somewhere else. These fans are the real losers and don't try to respond to this because you will make yourself more of an idiot. (P.S. I am betting there will be at least one.)

No doubt about that! What in tarnation is going on!! Seems like we regressed since the SC game... Yeah Yeah I know, we played Bama & Mizzou & blah blah blah.. But last night was awful. How do you let 87 catch all those freaking balls on the same play!!! And then let him go 1-1 on that last drive! WTF! And please, Dobbs is not SEC ready at all.... He couldn't pass to Peerless Price!

I am 53 years old, VFL & have never ever seem a string of years this bad. Makes you wonder if someone my age will be around when this thing turns around. After last night I don't see how we dont lose some recruits. What does the future hold???

I've got a new measure for Vol misery. The VMI (Vol Misery index). 1 thru 10 with 10 being the worst. We are at 10. Help me make the criteria. Rule 1 - any loss to Vanderbilt makes the index 10. Rule 2 - any lose that makes for a losing season equals 10. Hit it on both cases last night.

Damn... tough to be a Vol right now...

I am 66 years old and I never dreamed that Tennessee football would stoop this low. Very depressed. Was somewhat optimistic before this game but that has long passed.
