… and Lady Vol supporters, too.

If you enjoy watching crisp passing and swarming defense, do yourselves a favor and check out the game from Sunday between the Indiana Hoosiers and Penn State.

I watched the first half of it in the wee hours this morning and came away EXTREMELY impressed by how sharp the Hoosiers perimeter passing is, and how beautiful their bounce passes are. They obviously work on the speed of their ball movement a lot. I mean, A LOT. Zip, zip, zip!

I don’t think Indiana will lose too many more games this season — they lost close ones to Stanford and NCSt) after bringing back every starter from last season’s Elite 8 run. Patberg is in her 7th season and it shows, and the point guard Hillary-Cardano impressed me more than any PG I’ve seen all season — in all aspects of her game. Seriously. Her swarming defense was stellar. And the entire team gets up and down the floor very quickly. Just … wow!

I promise you, Lady Vols, that if y’all start putting more effort into making the type of crisp passes (and well-placed and timed bounce passes) that Indiana does, you’ll make a deep run in the post season. I PROMISE YOU THAT.

I agree. I am a true lady vols fan have been since I was a young kid. If you want to see good fundamental basketball, hard nosed defense, and true team play watch Indiana. They are scrapy, tough and play amazing fundamental basketball they play the right way. They utilize the 3 point shooters perfectly. TN could definitely take some lessons from this program, JMO

They may could also take some lessons from us since we beat this same team by 8 on their home court last season.

Except we’re not even close to being the same team this year as we were last year. Indiana IS — but with even more experience and better chemistry. Check out that game and you’ll see how fundamentally strong they are.

I think her point is valid. We play sloppy with poor passes until we are behind. That is not always going to work. Kellie is doing a wonderful job but our girls should put more effort in their passes. One last thing is I think Horston has more talent than anyone on the team but she makes every shot difficult instead of just taking it to the basket, she wants to wheel and deal

CP3_LVFL, I hate to say it for fear of some people taking it like I’m putting our terrific team down — because am NOT — but I believe Tennessee would struggle mightily in a matchup with Indiana if we were playing them this weekend. Except for Key, whom I think would have a clear advantage against the Hoosiers, it wouldn’t surprise me to see everyone else struggle.

And I love the Lady Vols and believe they can go far in the post season if they keep going the way they are going now and eventually get Rae back.

But dang, I wouldn’t want to face that lightning-fast passing anytime soon. We’ve still got some work to do.

I think we’re a better team this year.

I do, too. But we can’t accurately claim that our team of this year beat them last year because the personnel on OUR side is quite different this year. You get my point. Indiana’s starting lineup is EXACTLY the same. We haven’t actually seen how our main players this season would match up with them.

They are averaging 14 turnovers and were at 18 a game so plus four for them. Were at 49 rebounds a game to their 38 so more than one way to win a basketball game. Of course we want to see less turnovers, and in the last game should've had less than 10 because at least five of the eight traveling calls were bogus. We all hope Jordan will play more under control she already has an efficiency rating that is very high could be even higher.

I don't think they have any answer for Key in the post and I think we would dominate them on the boards. I thought we were playing them at home was surprised to see that we didn't get a return game. Your right we can't ever claim we could win any game, but I certainly like our chances against them if it happened.

Geez is Ali Patberg STILL playing college basketball?🤣🤣

This is her 7th dang season!!!!!

Of course, our own Jordan Walker started playing college basketball sometime during the Obama Administration and could, apparently, still have eligibility remaining even after the human race has colonized Mars.

But seriously. I can’t wrap my head around how Jojo could have come to Tennessee already with a degree but still have 3 years of eligibility. NOT that I’m complaining! I wish she had three more. Love me some Jordan Walker.

Coach Moren says they have struggled some under much higher expectations — maybe understandable for a program that had never reached the heights they reached last season. Also, they are go-go-go at breakneck speed. I’m going to try to find more of their games to watch to see if the excess turnovers are coming because of that, or something else.

I believe they are a very good team especially at home. This year their only two losses are to Stanford and NC State. They did struggle to beat Miami at home by two and Quinnipac by 8 but they are a legitimate contender for the Big Ten title. They dominated Kentucky and are capable of winning against anybody. Every game is different don't know which player is going to step up and or not play well. Their biggest liability is rebounding so teams that can crash the boards give them a lot of trouble. That is how Tennessee has been compensating for their 18 turnovers a game by winning the boards by 15 a game. What is going to bite us is when we turn it over that much and find a team that is equally as efficient on the boards. That could possibly be Stanford so hoping that we can get that turnover number down going forward.

Jordan got her degree in 3 years and had a medical redshirt one year, so she had 2 years eligibility when she came to Tennessee. She can stay another year with the extra Covid year

Now imagine Delicia Washington at Clemson. I believe this is her eight season. Haven’t looked into that for a while, but she’s been playing for almost a decade at the college level. Waivers due to injuries and coaching changes then COVID.

To any lurking LV player: Ignore all practice or playing advice from the amateurs on this board, including me. Pay attention to your coaches, your parents, and your teachers instead.

Oh, so you think that hoping players will try to emulate another team's outstanding ball movement is potentially bad advice that could harm the team if they did it? Sounds legit.

LOL

I don't know if you've noticed, but I've seen quite a few lazy passes between our players over the last decade, and I don't think it's bad advice to suggest they get a little more proficient in that area.

Alert the media! Send a signal to Kellie and the other coaches. I'm sure they're completely unaware of what crisp passing and sound fundamental basketball looks like. I'm sure they'll thank you for making them aware of an Indiana team that's ranked tenth but somehow has totally escaped them. And the players, too.

Ali Patberg is 43 with 2 kids and a mortgage

😆 Very well-preserved.

Indiana and other teams do have great ball movement that we would like to see with our ladies. The coaches and pkayers would surely like to find the sweet spot between the well-oiled machine and the creative instincts. The optimal offense allows for both and can adapt as needed, just as with changing defenses.
