UT has a few players with a chance to play in the NBA, I believe they all will have to improve dramatically to make it.

Scotty was considered a one-and-done type talent by some, it appears now that he will have to stay at least another year.

Will the success of Tobias Harris make or break us, as far as getting the most talented prospects.

Good question, actually this was concerning me a little bit as well. However, I believe that the one and done type players in actuality are few and far between. Scotty seems so inconsistent. he can be magical with the ball some nights, while other nights he looks like Lil' Romeo...lol

That's not on Pearl, that's on Hopson!

Um....

Your question is weird, but I'll say this.... I'll take non-nba talent like Chris Lofton, Jajuan Smith, Dane Bradshaw etc. everyday of the week over Tyler Smith, Wayne Chism, JP Prince, and Scotty Hopson.

I am not referring to you but the one hater that thinks Pearl is a bad coach for not producing NBA talent. Who cares? I'll take a team that wins over a team that's centered around players trying to raise their draft stock.

Most successful teams that make deep runs in the tourney have at least one NBA player. I understand what you are saying, but players like Tobias and Scotty can elevate your program. You need players like this to be successful.

LOL...everybody knows who that is...but what I was trying to convey is this.

If you get a top prospect, he needs to flourish or otherwise the top prospects will stop coming, they all want to get paid...most of them would rather it not be Euros.

I agree 100%. My favorite basketball team of all time was the 2005/2006 team that completely overachieved. I would rather have a team full of Chris Lofton's and Dane Bradshaws every year that overachieve. I would put Jujuan in that category when he was playing team ball.

Well...I think Bruce catches a lot of heat from lack of NBA talent. With Scotty not a one and done like a lot thought and Tyler delaying for two years now about going into the league, I think it's extremely important that Tobias goes pro. The problem with that is, I don't think going pro is a huge deal to him or his family and they seem pretty huge on education.

He could stay all 4 years, so long as everyone knew that he has developed into an NBA talent.

I agree with others to some degree, you need players that just hustle and get the job done, that care more about the team than they do their stat line.

At the same time, all the truly successful programs produce NBA talent. I really think that with what has transpired with Tyler seemingly regressing and Scotty not living up to his potential thus far, that it's very crucial that Tobias be a 1st round pick.

Personally, I LOVE it when people use this argument.

Look at all the teams that have "won" (final fours). What did they have in common? NBA players. JaJuan, Chris, and Dane are all fine and dandy as role players, but to win anything against the best teams consistently, you have to have equal or better talent for the most part.

Especially when you have a coach who has had a talent like Scotty Hopson for a year and a half, but the kid scores about 1 point against a Sun Belt team.

You can keep your Sweet Sixteens and heartbreaking moments of not having a coach that can draw up a decent play to win a game.

If your satisfied with making the tourney with a sweet sixteen scattered here and there, with 2nd round exits being a norm, then this is a great strategy. See Kentucky from 1999 to 2008.

To go to the final four or beyond, you have to have All Americans. You have to have some NBA talent. Regardless of any ones personal feelings about how hard they play, or how "spoiled" they are, you still don't go the distance without them.

80% of the time, especially in the college game, talent trumps all.

pearl's system doesn't showcase nba talent. he plays to many guys... the best players on his team generally get about 4-5 minutes less per game than on a roy williams coached team. the nba scouts want to see your offensive capabilities. pearl's half-court offense is in no way conducive to showcase offensive skill.... how can it be when 60% of the shot clock is spent with your center and pg passing the ball back and forth to each other 25 feet from the basket... they spend 60% of the shot clock not even looking for a shot. thats quality half court O. it should provide a great forum for our 5 star recruits to stand out over the 5 stars at UNC, UK, KU, etc. etc.

come to UT mr. 5 star.... play less minutes than you would at UNC, and stand around most of the shot clock. less minutes and less opportunity to catch and shoot where you like. thats a good sales pitch there.

Rose, Evans , CDR , Hardaway , Bedford , Houston , Shaq . You need pro talent to advance deep in the tournament . JMO

If his dad wasnt the package deal the vols would've been in better shape imo .

Tennessee won an SEC title when Tyler Smith took over Bradshaw's place in the lineup. Funny how that works out.

Come on Hat, you know you don't really need elite talent to be an elite team. All kinds of teams have made the final four and won National championships with suspect talent. We really should stop recruiting the elite players if we want to advance in the tournament.
