"For what it's worth, the defense was winning the practice 54-40 when the media viewing session ended."

I liked this part. More of this please.

Tom Smith looking BIG

No kidding. I noticed that in a video the other day and was asking how big he is. Didn't get an answer. I looked up his stats as a freshman and it said he was 6'1" 220. That's a good size runnig back. Anyone thinking he could make some serious noise this year?

Something I've picked up on in these interviews. There is no hesitation in these young mens answers. I like that. Shows me that they believe in what they are saying.

Justin Worley got the initial first-team reps, and Marcus Jackson appeared to be making a move at left guard as Tennessee resumed practice.

Worley closed Saturday's with a flourish, and Jackson, who has previous starting experience and has been among the Vols' top six offensive linemen in his first two seasons, has been pushing Alex Bullard along the offensive front. Jackson oftentimes operated as both first- and second-team guard. Bullard got some burn at second-team left tackle, which is default third-team, as Marques Pair continues to take first-team reps whenever incumbent Antonio 'Tiny' Richardson isn't available.

The two sides of the ball engaged in some spirited 11-on-11 and one-on-one, full-speed drills. At one point, rewarding his defensive unit for swarming to the ball, Jones unprotected his quarterbacks for three consecutive plays. The closest to a signal-caller getting engaged was when junior linebacker A.J. Johnson chased Nathan Peterman out of bonds and delivered a blow on the sideline before pulling up. Dontavis Sapp and Channing Fugate got early reps at linebacker.

Justin Coleman had an acrobatic interception and a pass break-up during one-on-ones, while Riyahd Jones also continued to show up. Devrin Young and Cody Blanc were effective for the wideouts, who got additional instruction from Jones. Placekicker Michael Palardy continued his strong start to spring, hitting a number of field goals

Palardy is a Practice Hero/Gameday Zero... Same stuff we heard last year, the year before, and the year before that... Not saying that he hasn't changed but his issue has never been his physical abilities. I will believe he can kick when he stops missing extra points on gamedays...

Sorry to be negative as that was such a positive post. I am as excited as anyone about the upcoming season I just want to temper my expectations because I have been disappointed for so many years...

The discipline of body language (no hands on the hips stuff) is great! That is an obvious sign when the Defense, especially, is gassed. It drove me nuts the last couple of years to see it and I am sure it gave away our weaknesses on more than one occasion. I am so excited to see how this team progresses!

If I ever coach some day on the high school or higher level, that is so how I'm rewarding my defense.
