Todd Helton Hall of Fame Selection?

I likewise say no. Statistics often mask greatness for Hall of Fame induction, but that doesnt make people deserving. See Sutton, Don.

i agree Don Sutton shouldn't have gotten in. He was able to play longer then most pitchers.

I think the next 5 to 6 years will be deciding factors. If he gets close to 200 hits a season and stays healthy he will be on the threshold of 3000 hits.

If the Rockies prove to be a post season team on a regular basis or he gets traded to a championship team, that will greatly increase his chances.

isn't it still a little early to be discussing Helton's potential induction to the HoF? It's not like his career is winding down.

But with the DH, and much improved training, is 3,000 hits really the same as it was in the Golden Age? Eddie Murray has 500 HR and 3000 hits, all for staying around well past his prime. Solid player for a long time, but never one of the best. Fearsome, but rarely dominant.

The humidor has cut Todd's power numbers back alot, not trying to knock the guy, but he's not a HOF.

Time will tell. He could get on the "cream and clear", grow a large head and get those power numbers back.

:)

it might not be winding, but down is definitely the right direction. I'm a fan, but nobody wants a high dollar guy with no pop and limited wheels.

I don't really mind Sutton being in that much. He wasn't really what I think of when I think "Hall of Famer," but 300 wins is still a magic number. Since the veterans committee would eventually have put him in anyway, the writers might as well have gone ahead and voted him in while he was still alive and young enough to enjoy it.

There's almost no way Helton gets in unless he has a Bonds-like renaissance. For better or worse, he'll be seen as entirely a creation of Coors.
