Hanks, but both are over-appreciated, IMO. Hanks only slightly. Both have had great roles, to be sure.

Curious as to why you think Hanks is over-appreciated? He's made some great films. I can understand Denzel.

Because many people (like you) seem to think he's the greatest actor, and I disagree. He's very good, but I would not consider him the best.

I grew up when a lot of his movies came out. Seems like my favorite movies all have him in them. Just a personal opinion I guess.

I love his movies, and he has a pretty clean record (unlike Denzel who has done a ton of stupid movies). I think the best actor is probably Ed Norton. I felt like Hanks was terrible in Da Vinci Code and he took a big hit in stature in my opinion.

Denzel Washington plays the same character in every movie.

No, he doesn't. Not even close

The cop in Training Day is nothing like the reporter in The Pelican Brief. The crook in American Gangster is nothing like the officer in Crimson Tide

He can't get the bigger leading roles like Hanks or Washington for a reason. He is not the actor they are.

True to an extent but they were all performed in a similar manner. Can you imagine Denzel playing a retard or a homosexual? Hanks has done both, and earned Oscars for both.

I dislike how the role Denzel played in American Gangster was celebrated. He was a despicable person.

Hanks by a pretty wide margin.

Hanks has range...Denzel simply plays a variation of himself in every role...has ever, even used an accent in a role?

Hanks' characters are far more complex...I mean, he acted an entire movie with a soccer ball.

I like Denzel, but he really does play the same character virtually in every movie.

Name his stupid movies. I think Hanks might be a smidgen better, but he has made more stupid movies than Denzel

You mean like Fight Club? I don't really understand the statement. Ed Norton has been the lead role in a lot of critically acclaimed movies. Do you mean he's not the star of big budget blockbuster movies like Da Vinci Code and Apollo 13....that's +1 for Norton in my book.

Really? You act as if he doesn't have any.

Pelican Brief
Courage Under Fire
Devil in a Blue Dress
Preacher's Wife
John Q
Fallen
Out of Time
Bone Collecter
The Siege
Virtuosity
Manchurian Candidate
Pelham 123
Book of Eli

All of those are well below a 7.0 rating on imdb.com, which is a poor rating, IMO.

I also hate Remember the Titans, American Gangster, and Inside Man.
