Tom Herman to FAU

I mean for them it's a great hire.

I honestly thought he would get a P5 job this off-season.

Guess he's going the Kiffy route or rehabbing his image for a couple of years off the beaten path and then moving back to the P5.

I think Sarkisian is showing you need an extra gear to pass muster at Texas. As Strong did before Herman.

From what I'm hearing, Sark has to produce next year. Double that if they find enough NIL money to get their running back to stay another year.

Personally I hope Texas stays lost in the woods for another decade or so. Couldn't happen to a nicer program.

That does look to be a good hire . Hell , I know I’m wrong now and admit it but at the time that CJH was hired I was actually pissed that in a way Danny White just brought Heupel from UCF instead of trying to hire Herman . At that moment in time I preferred Herman over Heupel by a long shot . He was 54-22 with Houston and Texas and played in a bowl game in each of his 6 seasons as a HC. Those 6 seasons included a 5-1 record in bowl games with wins in both the Peach and Sugar bowls , a conference championship with Houston and a B12CG appearance with ut.

I can’t recall If there was ever any real traction to the possibility but I do remember his name being mentioned as a candidate . Either way , I’m glad that Danny White hired Heupel and think that Herman is a great hire for FAU.

So the players in Florida get to look forward to being kissed by their coach. Forceable man love hasn't worked out at his recent stops

Herman proved at Houston he can coach.

I think Texas is a poisoned program. Too many bosses and somehow always too screwed up to put elite teams on the field. Texas is so full of talent and these players go to Tex and aTm to disappear.

I’ve heard an interesting take on the struggles of TX and TAMU (believe it was Tom Luginbill). In his opinion, the cream of the crop HS players in TX are maxed out by college. The pee-wee leagues up through HS are taken so seriously, are so competitive, etc. that those kids have reached their full potential already and have been fully developed. So what you see is what you get and those are the ones who wind up at the big schools. Teams like Baylor, TCU and OK State get the second tier who are still on the raw side, giving them the opportunity to develop and mold those kids.

Seems like if the great players are maxed out, then the lower tier players (going to Baylor and TCU and TXTech) would be maxed as well.

But it is definitely an interesting take on what we have watched TEX and aTm do for several years. TX HS football is definitely its own football world.
