Tom O'Brien out at NCSt

Franklin is their top target. Yow (NC State AD) could be preparing for the jump to SEC football.

I would think Franklin's stock is high right now and he could do better than NC State.

Three of our five wins came against coaches who were either fired or retired at the end of the season.

And we book ended the season with 2 of the wins.

Kind of weird to think back sitting in the GeorgiaDome for the UT/NCSU game that neither coach would survive.

I think this will backfire on State. O'Brien was a good coach and a class individual. The school doesn't have the resources or interest to be in the top echelon of college football programs. Franklin may very well go there but if he does, he'll either fail completely or bolt to another place at the first chance.

I think he'll hold out for a better job. If he continues his success at Vandy, he will likely have better options depending on what jobs come open.

I spent a good amount of time in the Raleigh/Durham area, and while O'Brien is a good guy and a good coach he just didn't win enough to keep the locals happy. Of course, basketball is king in that state but you kind of wonder out of all the schools (and I'll exclude Duke for obvious reasons) how a dominant program can't be built. Geographically, you have all the SEC schools coming in recruiting your state--I always thought the high school talent in the state of NC was quite strong. If the rumors of NC State and Virginia Tech coming to the SEC are true than whomever Yow hires as the next coach is going to have to take the football program to levels it hasn't yet been. Virginia Tech's kind of slumped this year too--maybe time for a change with Beamer as well.
