It's unbelievable how well he's recruited this year. He's always had the reputation as being a solid recruiter, but he's really shown that to be true with top guys in this class. Constantly see his name mentioned when kids are interviewed about talking with coaches and after talking with people close to the program, they have informed me that if Thig could just recruit all the time, he'd love to.

It will be interesting to see who comes to try to lure him away as you can rest assured that everyone has taken note of what our staff has been able to do on the recruiting trail this year. This class does not happen without Thigpen. Plain and simple. Yes, Butch has done an amazing job for a head coach with his own recruiting efforts, but anyone knows what they are talking about or is close to the program knows how important Thigpen is to our current and future recruiting success.

Thus far Butch has seemed like he knows what he is doing. I cannot imagine Coach Thig not getting a significant raise from his current 345,000 salary he's making right now. I wouldn't mind giving him close to 450,000/year if he continues to net these kind of results. I don't see anyone coming in to offer him a DC position right now, so that number will be hard for anyone to match for a position coach. Really hope we can keep him on staff for as long as possible b/c he's a key piece in rebuilding this program right now for us. IF for some reason he does decide to leave, I'll wish him well and it's not the end of the world obviously. Just cannot say enough about the job he's done this year and the foundation and relationships he's already begun to forge with kids in future classes as well.

I was noticing that while looking at our recruiting class, Tommy Thigpen has definetly earned his keep and then some. I wouldn't mind seeing him getting a bonus

Not sure why he would want to leave when he's doing such a great job here and is comparatively well paid. I feel sure we would match any offer he might receive and give him incentives to stay.

I wonder if there is a recruiting bonus like Kiffin had set up for his one and done staff?

Since you are handing our raises, I will take one as well

It's remarkable what assistants can do when their not fearful for losing their jobs, feel like a tight family, and know they have a winner as hc.

Thig has always been a homerun recruiter.

OP is out of his mind. $450,000 is way off base.

Thig needs something close to $800,000 - $1,000,000

Oh I agree, except for the money, but I'd be interested to see if he's had a better recruiting class at a program as down as Tennessee.

Show me an assistant coach in the country that's not an associate head coach (which Stripling already is for us) or a coordinator who makes anywhere close to 800,000-1,000,000/year. In case you haven't noticed, our financial affairs athletically aren't exactly great right now. Paying that much to an assistant is unheard of and honestly not worth that much money as hard as it is to imagine Thig going elsewhere... Having knowledge of several assistants' salaries around the country, I feel like 400,000-500,000 max is still a high ballpark to play in for someone who isn't a coordinator or associate head coach.

Furthermore considering our two coordinators make 475,000/year, it's even more unlikely to throw that kind of money at an assistant who works under them. I would make the argument to make Thig the highest paid assistant coach who's not a coordinator if we need to, but anything CLOSE to the number you mentioned is nuts.

I couldn't agree more... Coach Thigpen most certainly deserves enough of a bump to lock him up and keep him on our staff. :good!:

If any of the coaches need a Raise, Its Tommy. I worry that he may leave to go back to Auburn. I started a similar thread several weeks ago..a great many of the responses where " Give him a raise once we start winning"...typical. He's the mad scientist with recruiting. I know Butch and Azzani are awesome recruiters, but Tommy is the one with serious SEC connections. Hopefully, we wont loose him over a frugal AD, cause I bet he would love to be back with Malzaun. It all starts with recruiting. And we need to keep being in the top 5. Go Vols!

Thig is someone we cannot lose...look at his auburn classes now look at their class now with just one loss.

The money is money.

I will throw in a couple of hundred, I am sure posters on VN could raise about $100,000 of that, hell if he lands Adoree' Jackson VN poster may pledge $200,000 to help keep Thig

Talk about a melt down and VN doing a 180 on CBJ, wait and see what happens IF Thig were to leave and the two current coordinators were to stay :eek:lol:

If the high powers on the Hill are too tight with the $$$ and we lose a top recruiter like this then they should be fired instantly!!!

Duke is basketball and they will never take a chance at losing coach K to anyone for any amount of $$$!!!

Tennessee IS football and Ladies basketball and we should NEVER let some $$$ be a reason to let those 2 programs that define Tennessee go down the toilet again.

If alaBubba can pay Nick saTan and his staff the $$$ they do then Tennessee should be able to do the same things for our coaches.

Note to the high powers...Good coaches and great recruiters simply ARE valuable assets!!!

Pay the $$$ to keep those valuable assets just like you'd pay the $$$ to keep Neyland a top stadium.

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!
