I think it would be appropriate for UT fans to be a little less hostile to the visitors than usual. Rick Byrd is a Knoxville native and a UT grad. Belmont is a perfect example of what is right about college athletics. It would be nice to see our fans treat them with the respect they richly deserve. I'll get off my soapbox now.

I would think the fact they still use the 25 year old newspaper gimmick while the opponent is being introduced would cause shame.

Hey, they started doing that newspaper thing back when I was in school during the Ernie and Bernie years. We thought it was cool the first few times, but it is way too old. Geez.

I'm looking forward to the game tomorrow...I got to catch UT at Xavier last year while at my wife's family's house in Cincinnati for the holidays....now Belmot at UT since I'm in Tennessee at my family's place. I don't get many opportunities to see them play - I wish this holiday streak could continue along in perpetuity ...

...I'll do what I can to show some respect :)

and on top of all that, it should be a good basketball game. Belmont isn't going to be a pushover. They're a veteran team, well-coached, won't be easy to turn them over or dictate the tempo to them. I expect UT to win, but it will be a test.

It's never appropriate to be ugly to visiting teams, but I hope the fans wouldn't go easy on Belmont just because the Bruins are coached by a UT grad.

Belmont is no pushover. Any team that loses by four points to Duke can play. Our fans should treat them the same as if it was an SEC rival coming to town.

I'd say the same thing I say about Tommy West and Memphis when we play them in football. I hope Byrd wins every game he coaches--except when he plays UT, in which event I hope his team gets stomped.

That type of juvenile, banal gimmick is what happens with students who are either too lazy, not creative, not smart, or some combination of the three.

Makes me wonder why the active, creative, and smart students of the past didn't change it when they were around.

I generally avoided sitting around idiots who felt the need to have gimmicks. I was there to watch basketball. No reason for me to try and change it.

I hate the Rocky Top Rowdies and think they're the lamest people in the stadium. But if you're going to complain about their antics and sit there and ask why no one does anything about it when there was presumably ample time for you to change it in your years at UT, then you're about as useful as they are.

I'm not asking why nobody does anything about it. I know that answer. They're dumb. I'm simply engaging in one of my favorite pastimes: Making fun of stupid people.
