I don't know if anybody else noticed in the Vandy game, but we were running a new zone offense. Philosophy still the same, get the ball inside, but I actually saw more flashes and cutting off the ball. It looked better. The thing that still was the same, the ball still continued to do the same thing, and stay in players hands too long, and not enough ball reversals. When we did reverse the ball quickly and feed the high post, we got easy back door shots/weak side layups (Carter most of the time)
Anybody else notice this?
To my point though ....
KY always plays us extremely hard, tonight is going to be a battle. Listening to CHW speak yesterday (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZtBTxR0rzg) her game plan is to push. I'm thinking Mitchell is going to do his pressure defense still, full court, but a zone press (possibly 2-2-1 or 1-2-2) and just fall back to a 2-3 zone. If we played under control, I would be okay for us to push, I don't know if this is right for us. I feel like we are playing right into what KY wants us to do. Our team hasn't shown it can play up-tempo and keep control. This always leads to selfish one-on-one play.
I can see this game being another Stanford for us. I hope not, I really hope not. It's almost February, we need to be playing better. For me, tonight's game is going to be a game that will spring shot us forward, give us confidence and put us finally on the right path. Their are always turning points in the season. I sense this could be our game to do that. But on the other end, could very well be the complete opposite.
There are no more wake up calls in this season. It's time to put up or shut up at this point!
