Tony Barbee to Auburn

That's a gutsy move by Barbee. If he succeeds at Auburn, he'll be positioned for a really bigtime job. It'll also be intriguing to see who UTEP calls now. Pretty sure their most famous coaching alum and the guy who lifted their program out of the Jason Rabodeaux mess would both be interested.

Small write up on it from ESPN.com:

Sources: UTEP coach Tony Barbee takes Auburn job - ESPN

They mention Gillespie as a possible replacement at UTEP, I also heard his name mentioned for the Houston job. Either place would be a good fit assuming he has his life back together and is serious about getting his career jump started.

As far as Barbee to Auburn goes...don't think its a real flashy hire but should make for some interesting matchups in the basketball iron bowl between he and anthony grant. Auburn is spending money like they are serious about having a basketball program, guess we will have to see if they have the right coach this time to fill the stands.

With LSU and Arkansas down the last few years and Ole Miss and Miss St. on cruise control stuck at mediocre, the SEC West is ripe for one of the Alabama schools to emerge (my money is on Grant and Alabama)

Congrats to Barbee...not sure how this will work out as I think this is a big step for Barbee, but I think Auburn picked up a good coach and a very nice down to earth guy. I think UTEP should go after Gillespie, he could do some good with that program IMO.
