I just wanted to get reaction to Basilio blowing smoke about the academic at risk kids in regards to recruiting. Cheek and Martin are going to allow a couple in our recruiting class as a "loosening" of this rule. The average SEC program usually takes on 5...I still agree that Martin and Cheek need to go but is this really as a big a factor with the failure of our program?

I don't know how people actually listen to his program for info...he ran an entire segment on whether Griner was a man or a woman and if they should gender test her.

I don't listen to that blowhard, but I do believe that is a legitimate question. She didn't dare try to qualify for the Olympics. Did she know she would fail the estrogen test? Have you heard her deep voice when she gives an interview? Is she a tweener? I don't know, but it isn't fair if she is a dude.

where's the list of kids that can't get into tennessee, but can get in everywhere else.

There isn't one. This is just one of the excuses that the Dooley staff perpetuated to make up for shortcomings on the field.

There are definitely issues with academics, particularly with the elimination several years ago of a couple of athlete-friendly majors, while other schools still have them But the admissions deal is a near-total fabrication. In the last 10 years, only 4 athletes that qualified under NCAA rules were denied admission, and just 2 of those were football players.

Where do you get that information? How many others are turned away or just don't try to get in because they know they will fail?

we had 5 guys on this team that will be drafted in the first 3 rounds of the draft - in the first 3 rounds you plan on getting a starter so the NFL thinks we have talent

we will have 5-7 guys drafted next year as well

talent is just not the issue - coaching was and hopefully that is a thing of the past

Basilio is not a Dooley apologist, far from it. Someone on his program said that it may have affected Fulmer in his latter days here. Basilio and Ainge are at least entertaining- many of the other sport hosts just read the newspaper to you and give box scores.

But that didn't stop him from listing "A member of the outgoing staff" as his "source" for today's topic.

Tony Basilio is getting as bad as the three jerks on the other station.Very bad when you have to get the news from 104.5 the zone and hear Clay.

Doug Matthews has repeatedly discussed this on his show, Big Orange Sunday. He is pretty well connected up there so there has to be some validity to this being an issue. Down with the booger eater!!!

Dante Phillips was turned away by the Florida admissions office. We admitted him immediately. There are a few things that could be smoothed out, but in general this is a giant red herring. We have sucked because our coaching sucks.

If you believe what some people are trying to say then how do you explain certain players like John Brown? Perhaps they have made coaches be more choosy than they might have liked, but it is complete BS that no marginal students have been accepted.

2 questions:

Is it really a bad thing that we have to go after the "smarter" football players?

Does anyone really think Kiffin's recruits were studs in the classroom?

Cheek has changed a few things around the margins that could be walked back, but in general we're admitting kids who can barely read just like we always have.
