I feel Tony Jones is an innovator. He has invented the PREVENT OFFENSE!!! I kept waiting for Goins to take a knee after all that dribbling the shot clock out.

Yeah, sorry. But I don't think Jones can cut it.

He stated after the game he was now comfortable with his situation after two games, and 12 turnovers, he could live with.

If he's a good coach, he doesn't sound like it.

You are obviously ticked about this. 3 years on the board and came out for 9th post for a response to my thread. I feel honored. lol

And I noticed a new offensive scheme that kinda went down like this: Spread out and stand there looking at each other. Then scratch yourself. Then switch places with Brian Williams. Yawn. Check your watch. Oops, 5 seconds on the shot clock better take an off-balance three.

Yep if was a football game we would dominate time of possession.

I generally just read.

But I've never seen anything like this team. Really is puzzling.

I hate to see all the 'blame Pearl' stuff though. He didn't get where he is by putting teams on the floor like this. I think it is something non-coaching.

Besides. Those wanting Pearl's head - who you gonna get ? Truth is, Pearl has done more in such a short time than any other BB coach at UT.
I'll stick with him.

It's Bruce Pearl's game planning. He's just not on the sideline for the games. Bruce is responsible for pretty much everything.

I'm not seeing any game planning. Absolutely pathetic on both ends of the floor. Looks like everyone has collectively mailed it in.

The only game planning thats going on is what time does the rotation start and how many minutes Mcmiss and Pearl jr is going to get.I know Mcmiss didnt get that many tonite but still he got 1 and thats too many.
Now it seems Goins and Williams are getting worse, not that Williams was doing anything anyways.
This whole team is a mess and Pearl is responsible for it.Theres no quick fix for it either.

To Jones defense this team wasn't playing all that well before Pearl was suspended...

Most of you know a lot more about basketball than me. That's a given. Tobias Harris is good. His desire to win is there, you can see it. He's frustrated, you can tell. Bench Scotty and Williams. Take away the dressing rooms. Have practice outside in the snow. Make their lives miserable. Build a team that goes through Harris. Maymon, Fields, Harris, and Golden can shoulder the load if that's the expectation. Out with the old, in with the new. If Tatum, Williams and Hopson are gonna pout around, sit em'. If they laugh, kick 'em.

So far, all Tony has proven is that he knows how to lose both on the road and at home.

Wade Houston redux!

Lets see 0-2 for TJ. I don't believe he has to worry about getting that HC position he has wanted. For the players, Harris is hurting, you can see on his face. This team has so much talent and so little desire. What a waste. Its like they have all ready gotten the NCAA letter and cashed in their chips.

After that interview he gave on the sidelines i'm not sure he can tie his shoes, much less be creative.

I think it's hard for the players since they are so use to Pearl screaming and yelling all the time and now Tony is over there silent. There is nothing wrong with that, but it takes awhile for players to get comfortable with a new coach. You can tell the officials don't respect him at all and I wonder if the other coaches respect him.

There is no reason in the world we should have a 11 man rotation. We should be playing no more than 8 or 9. Did you all see the stat about Cam? We are +113 points when he is on the court yet we take him out 2:05 in to the game. We sub way to much and way to often. How can you expect any player to get in a rhythm or on a roll coming out of the game every 3 or 4 mins?

I am all for starting Golden at PG

Goins needs to be pushed.....he is a much better player than he has shown the last few games

Why are half court issues being thrown at the feet of Jones?

THIS! All day long! You can't make everyone happy by dividing minutes among 11-12 players. The quicker we get people to understand their role, the better off we'll be. I'm not convinced that will happen with this team. Everyone is already expecting to get "x" amount of minutes. Oh, and if BW calls someone else out this week about their lack of defense, someone should put together a video series of all his defensive lapses and send it to him.

Its the reason he is an assistant and Pearl is the Head Coach! Not that hard to rationalize, but this is volnation! TJ should have called a timeout with 20secs to go in regulation to setup a play,he had two left. I think he got blasted for using his last at Arky when he really didn't need to,so he was probably a bit freaked out! It is what it is and for those who want PEARL gone, have a look at the future!! GO VOLS!

And too much substitution!!!

Blaming Jones is easier than admitting the problem is always going to be an issue with a Pearl coached team.

Agreed. UT basketball, under Pearl, has never been great in the half-court. That is not a new development under Jones. When Chris Lofton and JaJuan Smith were playing, the terrible half-court offense was hidden behind the difficult shots that Lofton and Smith would routinely make and the transition opportunities the defense generated. Now, there is no one that can make Lofton and Smith type threes--though there have not been many college players that could consistently make those types of shots--and the defense, for better or worse, does not generate as many turnovers. Moreover, this team is soft inside both defensively and offensively. As much as I like Tobias Harris on the offensive end, he has been targeted on the defensive end by both Arkansas and Florida. Williams is equally deficient. I think there is too much pressure on the guards to perform every night.

I have no idea what he wants, but the silver lining to this misery is that CTJ's resume for those mythical HC jobs has not been enhanced by these two lossees. If we can keep Pearl in house, then this may actually help in the long run.

BTW, what on God's green earth is ESPN, our coaching staff, and the NCAA doind by allowing ESPN to interview coaches during timeouts? It's bad enough at the 1/2, but this is ridiculous. I want my coach COACHING during timeouts and halftimes, not wasting :45 for the hype machine.

This is not the XFL. Use a GA or something instead of the head coach. All MHO.

Dividing minutes to make people happy should only happen in rec league when you have to pay to play. We should be playing the best players to help us win. This seems so elementary to understand and I dont see why the coaches do this. It just doesnt make sense and that is why it is so frustrating as a fan.

Hopson, Harris, and Tatum should never be taken off the floor at the same time. Rest them one by one and bring them back accordingly but 1 or 2 of them should always, ALWAYS be on the floor. IMO.
