Edward Goodrich has now filed a suit and is seeking $800,000 in damages from Tony McDaniel. The suit includes $300,000 in compensatory damages and $500,000 in punitive damages.

His lawyer said...
"UT is not a part of this suit," Venable said. "It's not a UT thing. It's not a sports thing. It's a situation where a young student was assaulted.

"Tony has been through a lot, as has the young man who was struck," Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer said Thursday in reaction to the lawsuit. "Tony has worked hard to keep his life on track.

"This day and age, lawsuits and those types of things are just a part of our society. It's something you have to deal with."

Anyone else think that Goodrich waited this long to see if McDaniel was going to enter the NFL draft? His lawyer says they waited because it was a matter of gathering facts to beat the statute of limitations. I don't buy it.

Can't blame him for filing a lawsuit - he got knocked out!!! I think he was pretty jacked up after the whole thing.

I will leave this for the JD's like Lawgator to correct, but it seems like because the incident was caught on tape, those numbers seem more reasonable than what other people might sue for. I have no idea what the state precedent is for having your jaw broken in four places.

He's a hot head. Looked like a sucker punch to me. He oughta be sued and locked up especially if he's had trouble in the past. I watched locked up juveniles before and some of them did a whole hell of alot less to be locked up than what he did.One more time---HOTHEAD! Pay the price!

My thoughts exactly...If McD had opted to enter the draft, this suit wouldnt have came up until late april IMO.

Well I think they had to do it soon or they wouldn't be able to at all. You only have a certain amount of time to do such things. However, I would suspect that they waited until the last minute to see if he was in the draft. If he went, I'd think they'd be suing for more than $800,000.

Jimmy Hyams is reporting on the radio that McDaniel has now decided to enter the NFL Draft. He is projected as a 4th round pick.

It's all over the place. He's going pro. He's separating himself from UT which I think is a smart move. The last thing this team needs is another off-field distraction especially legal.

He filed the papers today to go pro. Sources say he expected to sign with the same Sports Management as Rob Smith. It appears McD read the news article friday morning over the law suit and changed his mind.

Dare I say that Mr. Goodrich must be a Bama fan?

I know, or rather, knew, the Goodrich kid. Not sure about now, but he was a decent guy when I had him in class. :twocents:

Hey, my friend beat the crap out of a guy and there was a witness. Why didn't he get sued for the $20 that he's worth? By the way, he still owes me $10. The point is, if this ever gets to court and TM has a good attorney, Goodrich will maid out as a money grabber. I understand that he had many surgeries and my heart goes out to the kid. But 800K is a little steep for someone who currently has no income.

If I remember correctly the story was that Tmc was upset because he was getting fouled and no respect, so he said the next person that fouls me is gonna get smacked. full court later tmac makes good on his word and goodrich's face was shattered. Shattered! I hate thugs and Tmac is a thug. He is one heck of a ball player, but that is no excuse to let him slide. If I was in Goodrich's place I would've went for more. Not cause I want more money, but because Tmac needs to learn you only resort to violence when you fear bodily harm, your life or families lives are at risk. You can't hit people because things aren't going your way at a game.
