i couldn't agree more
I feel bad for Mcdaniel though.
I think there was a car accident as a freshmen that killed part of his family. The "fight" that he got in, there were rumors, that the guy who got hit, had been a troublemaker and had it coming for several weeks. Not justifying hitting the guy, and the plate he has in his head, but what kind of an idiot, upsets a 6'5", 300 lb DE??
Hopefully, he can fit in somewhere as a free agent.
Here's the story. A good friend of mine was present at the time of the incident. They were playing pick-up basketball. McDaniel kept getting fouled, just like players foul Shaq in the NBA. Frustrated (probably unjustifiably, since it is nothing more than for fun), he said, "the next (insert derrogatory noun here) that fouls me is gonna get (insert appropriate verb here)."
Now, remember- This guy is playing basketball (with nothing serious at stake) with a bunch of guys half his size.
So anyways, this unlucky kid make the mistake of fouling the big bully, and POW!!! Then of course the possee that accompanied Tony was in a big rah rah while the kid lays unconscious and seriously injured. I dont know the kid's motivation (maybe the foul was intentional), but when you are twice the size of the other guy, are you really proving how tough you are by taking him out???
It makes me think of guys that hit their wives... It's like they are so insecure that they must make themselves feel "manly" and "macho" by imposing their will on someone half their size. You didn't see him act that way when they have scuffles with other SEC linemen. And you would like to wonder where that aggressiveness was when Auburn and other teams consistently were running the ball all over the field, and McDaniel was being blocked and moved around by someone of equal size and strength of him.
Anyways, back to the story. The kid lays motionless and nobody really comes to his aid immediately in fear of big bully McDaniel. A while after, when everyone realized that what just happened was pretty serious, medical help was then sought.
Now, kids fight, and sometimes one happens to be bigger than the other. (not that we would pick fights with guys twice our size). But the reason for McDaniel to "drop" that kid was not justifiable, especially when you are in a position of being a scholarship football player at a major Division 1 University. He should know better than that.
As my friend says, it was his own fault... because he didn't RUN! hahaha
