ESPN - Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo reportedly takes homeless man to movies

Tony Romo made one man very happy, and it had nothing to do with throwing touchdowns.

Romo

The Dallas Morning News reported on Wednesday that the Cowboys quarterback took a homeless man to the movies recently.

The man, who goes by Doc, was outside a theater in in Dallas when a man came up and offered to pay his way to see a movie. Planning on passing out fliers for a consignment store across the street, Doc declined. But then he realized that he had just turned down Romo.

He ran across the street, asked for the day off and ran back to the theater. Romo and Doc ended up sitting together watching the movie "Role Model." Doc told the newspaper that he informed Romo that he hadn't showered in days.

"Don't worry about that," Romo said, according to the newspaper. "I'm used to locker rooms."

Romo reportedly also changed the tire of a couple on the way home the night of the season opener and showed up to a high school pep rally with actor Will Smith earlier this week. He confirmed the encounter with Doc but wouldn't elaborate.

This latest gesture really impressed Doc.

"For me, it was a blessing," Doc said. "It came at just the right time. It gave me some encouragement and faith in mankind. I just wanted to say thank you."

Tony Romo is a saint, a scholar and a real American hero. We need more men of his caliber to step up in this manner. This is why God will shine on the Dallas Cowboys this season and bring the Lombardi Trophy back to America's Team.

Great find and great story, as always, GSV...

Jeff Hall used to take the homeless on Cumberland to Krystals and buy them dinner. Even more impressive when it's a college athlete

i understand the money issue you are referring to, but Romo's been associated with several humanitarian acts that were just spur of the moment. I don't think we can actually say Hall's act was more impressive. I hate the Cowboys, but Romo is a very class act. Equally impressive all the way around in my book.

+1 I feel the same way. He has really good character. Look at the fact that he has been taking care of Jessica Simpson, and you KNOW he is a saint. :)

Romo is a good man, who happens to play football for a living.

which is what needs to be more prevelent. stories like that should be on the news, however all we see on the news is people like the thug formerly known as pacman jones shooting up a strip club, or baseball players shooting up roids and lying about it etc.

actually after reading the story again I'm less impressed. He convinced a homeless man to stop working and go see a movie? Does TR not pay attention to what's going on in this country right now?

Dallas Cowboys quarterback had a special guest at the movies recently -- a homeless man who goes by the nickname "Doc," the Dallas Morning News reported.

According to the newspaper, Romo offered to buy Doc a ticket to the movies when he saw the homeless man cashing in change at a Dallas theater. Doc allegedly initially declined the offer because he was supposed to pass out fliers for a local consignment store, but changed his mind once he recognized Romo.

Doc told the Morning News that he ran across the street and told the consignment store he wouldn't be able to work for them that day and then returned to the theater to see "Role Models" with the quarterback. When Doc entered the theater, Romo allegedly waved the man over to sit with him and his friend.

Doc said he admitted to the quarterback that he hadn’t showered in a few days, but the Cowboys passer allegedly told the man, "Don't worry about that, I'm used to locker rooms," the Morning News reported.

Romo's act was a memorable one for Doc.

"For me, it was a blessing," Doc told the Morning News. "It came at just the right time. It gave me some encouragement and faith in mankind. I just wanted to say thank you."

Romo confirmed the story to the newspaper but did not want to elaborate on his gesture.

Maybe i should try something like this with Jessica Simpson...
