Tony White tribute…..he definitely could play today

White could have scored at least 30 points per game with the three point line in effect.
I was young but I don’t remember him being a long range gunner. I remember him being a midrange jumper, slashing, high free throw attempts kinda player but im sure he would’ve adapted. Definitely one of the reasons I fell in love with basketball! Ellis, Johnson, White, Dyron! Great times!

White averaged 26 ppg in 1986/87 and the 3-point line was almost 2.5 feet closer than it is now. He barely averaged one make per game. Devoe wasn’t a fan of the 3-PL. He even said that any player that looked at their feet before shooting would be benched.

Didn't matter if you doubled him up or not, he's still going to get his 20...he knew it and the other team knew it....think ZZ kinda has that same mentality.

Terry Rozier of the Charlotte Hornets reminds me a lot of Tony White. Tony was a scoring machine back in the day.

I always thought looking back that Devoe underachieved with the amount of talent he had to work with.

Woodruff should have hired someone other than DeVoe who would have bolted for the Ohio State job.

Devoe checked the boxes. Young guy. Defense oriented style. Demanded discipline. Bobby Knight protégé. They didn’t want to stray far from the things that Mears had built his program on. The Bobby Knight connection was huge.

Agree, early DeVoe was by far, the best Knight protege. Knight adapted, DeVoe didn't

Tony was fun to watch. A Tennessee legend. I believe he was from North Carolina. Seems like I remember that Dean Smith told Devoe about Tony.
