Top 50 players from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

(1, 2) RB Marcus Lattimore – I am hearing the Auburn is going to probably pull the whammy here and get Lattimore and Lache Seastrunk in this recruiting cycle. For whatever reason the Gators have not recruited Lattimore very hard. The only thing I can think of is the lack of pure top end speed. What I am hearing from sources close to South Carolina and Lattimore is that Seastrunk is already committed to Auburn silently and recruiting for them and is really trying to pull Lattimore to come with him to a new program. Lattimore likes that a lot.

The team you have to wonder about here is Georgia. This was supposed to be the year the Dawgs landed the big time back after Knowshon Moreno went pro and was drafted so high. Lattimore was high on the Dawgs at one point until they all but screwed up his recruiting. It seems that they told Lattimore he was their number one back on the board. I am sure he wanted to hear that. What he didn't like hearing is a phone call from RB Mack Brown to Lattimore telling Marcus that the Dawgs told him (Brown) exactly the same thing. In the immortal words of Scooby -Doo, “Roops Raggy”.

(2, 8) CB Lamarcus Joyner – I had a chance to speak to Joyner for a good bit of time when I made the trip to Miami for his 7 on 7 try out. One thing I took away from talking to him in person is how grown up he seemed. With that in mind, I always consider a kid like this as one that will not be so impressionable as to fall for a lot of the recruiting sales stuff. He will have to see proof of what he likes in a program in order to be sold to that program.

Joyner was the only one of the south Florida kids that ended up making the trip to Ohio State for their spring game. What was once supposed to be a bus load, turned out to be a solo trip with his uncle and “mentor”. I know he really liked it and OSU has a lot of stuff to really legitimately sell Joyner.

Joyner's other supposed team is FSU. Given that i think Joyner is a grown up kid, I just don't see him landing at FSU, although he has a hard time saying no to their staff and the people calling for recruiting updates. That is the same with the OSU staff as well. Each school thinks they are going to get him.

Watch this one closely. Joyner has not and likely will not drop the Gators until he checks them out. If the Gators did not have such a need for corners and weren't trying to sign 3-4, I think they would have a lot better shot this early in the process. As it is, he sees the signing of all these corners as a threat and may not want to try that. At the end of the day, when Haden goes pro and in the early rounds, and Janoris is talked about as an early draft pick the following year and Wondy and Markihe are on the way out due to graduation, this depth chart is going to look pretty dang good to the number one corner in the country. I am marking him down for OSU at the moment, but do not be shocked in the end if....

(3, 9) LB Jeff Luc – Luc is one of those great kids that can't say no to anyone. Therefore, everyone believes they have a legit shot with him. I talked to Luc a little bit in person in Tampa at the 7 on 7 tournament and what a great kid he is. He spent all his spare time with a little 6-8 year old boy that followed him around every step he took. I don't know if it was a little brother, but he certainly treated the little one like that and showed some maturity in his actions wit6h the child.

My understanding with his situation is that Mom doesn't want him at Miami which was his first choice in the beginning. There are specific reasons for this, but nothing I am willing to go into at the moment.

As Jason has alluded to FSU had the inside track early, but they screwed the pooch so to speak by not offering Luc for a very long time. I have no idea what they were thinking, it is not like they are in a position to slow play even medium level talent at this point and Luc is ultra big time.

As Jason has also alluded to there are some things that we know that have gone on behind the scenes that lead us to believe Florida stands out for Luc. I think he comes here, but I also believe he will stay open to everyone for quite a while. He is an early enrollee, so we know at least a December decision has to be made.

(4, 13) S Matt Elam – Very bright prospect and I think he's the number one 2009 prospect in the state that could play safety, linebacker, running back, or receiver at a high level at the next level. He is very solid to Florida and helping recruit for the Gators.

(5, 17) S Alec Ogletree – Ogletree is a very physical specimen and definitely passes the eyeball test. He played in Tampa at the 7 on 7 and certainly improved his stock there which was already high. He loves Miami and that looks like his likely destination. Although you have to wonder why he is waiting and I think it is because he wants to see how things go for the Canes. I think if the Gators weren't already knee deep in safeties, they would have a great shot, he still likes UF. However, if Miami falters, which I expect, look for the Dogs to land this one.

(6, 19) WR Trovon Reed – This Louisiana wide receiver wold seem a lock for LSU, and the Tigers think they get him. However, I would bet money on the other Tigers of Auburn right now. Reed is big time friends with Seastrunk and also has a “mentor” “handling” his recruiting for him. I look for a bog bidding war between the two schools and LSU hardly loses big time talent from their state, but Reed is headed to Auburn at this time. Seastrunk, Lattimore, and Reed are three five star skill players that I have pegged for Auburn at the moment.

(7, 22) LB Jacques Smith – Despite rumors that he was looking around, this Tennessean will sign with Lane Kiffin on signing day.

(8, 23) OL Damien Robinson – Right now it appears to0 be a two team race between Tennessee and Alabama a state of Mississippi source told me. He also said not to rule out Mississippi State and Mullen on this one just yet. It looks like Tennessee will load up on OL this year and take a few reaches. I don't think that bodes well for getting a guy like Robinson. I will say Bama on this one.

(9, 26) RB Michael Dyer – Arkansas believes they will get Dyer in the end, and that is probably a pretty safe bet to take. He doesn't name them very often as a leader, but he has big interest. His most recent report had Auburn and Tennessee recruiting him the hardest, but I don't see Auburn after getting Lattimore and Seastrunk. The one team that could sneak in and get him is Oklahoma. I think it will come down to OU and Arkansas and I will go with the home team.

(10, 27) DT Garrison Smith – Smith is a dominating DT and tops on the board at Florida and Georgia. It should be a two team race in the end, and I believe the Gators lead even without him visiting. Again, I agree with Jason here that a visit soon will be necessary to stay on top for this one. He should visit this summer and if he does look for the Gators to come out on top and him to come to Florida with his friend Mack Brown. If not, the Dawgs will get this one. I say he makes that trip.
