Has anyone torn their rotator cuff or had a similar shoulder injury?

I have a constant clicking/grinding sound when I move my shoulder, and it usually doesn't hurt but I will get some dull pain if I do a lot of bench press/chest workout and especially push ups. I used to think it was bad form but I've made sure I use proper form and it still happens. I also found when I lay down I can't put my arm in certain position, without feeling discomfort.

I had a sports injury a long time ago and I'm wondering if it never healed correctly. I've read up on the symptoms and it seems to all point to rotator cuff.

I used to have something like that. I went to the doctor and he said either you have a severely torn ligament that will require surgery or you have some minor damage I can take care of with a cortisone shot. I was in lots of pain...like could barely throw a softball. The cortisone shot did the trick, fortunately.

It's probably just impingement from a bone spur on the subacromion. This can lead to a cuff tear. It could be some bursitis. A MRI will confirm.

I've had it. My advice - do everything you can to avoid surgery.

It is the most painful uncomfortable recovery I've ever had. After sx you have a painful PT to recover your range of motion. You have to sleep in a chair for quite a few weeks then when you do go to a bed you cannot lay on that side which is annoying. You cannot put your pants on or tie your shoe by yourself. The worst part - if its on the side of your dominate hand, well.... good luck wiping your butt. Better start practicing now cause its a difficult as trying to throw a baseball with your non dominate hand.

Sometimes surgery is inevitable as in it wont heal or you can only take so much cortisone injections but try to do everything you can before you and your doctor conclude this is the only way to get better.

My FIL, and a good friend both had surgery in the past year for it. They both still have problems. I had a slight tear from a seatbelt during a car wreck, but not bad enough to wanna do surgery. Dr said over the years it may get worse, but hasn't.

The only way to tell for sure is to get an MRI/arthrogram. Could be a rotator cuff, biceps tendon, labrum, et al. I had a subacromial spur tearing into my biceps tendon, mimicking a torn biceps or labrum. Fortunately, the arthroscopic surgery was easier than anticipated, and I have full use of my dominant shoulder again with no pain.

I can recommend a local Ortho if you need one.

Hurt my shoulder at work to the point throwing a softball felt like a cannonball.
A partial tear on the MRI and the DR at KOC wanted to try cortisone shot first before surgery.

Haven't had another problem with it and that was in 2005.

I had something similar. Hurt it playing football when I was 16. Can't remember exactly what I did, but I know I have 4 anchors in my shoulder now.
