The Rangers get Max Ramirez in that Lofton trade. Ramirez was sent to Cleveland in the trade that sent Bob Wickman to the Braves. Atlanta didn't want to trade this guy away but with Saltalamacchia in the system they could afford to send him away. Ramirez has a bright future and in a couple years you'll be seeing him fight for a spot on the Rangers' roster. However, this makes things interesting in the Braves/Rangers talks for Texiera. If the Braves send Salty to the Rangers for Texiera, which it seems they will have to do if they want him, that'll put Salty back in the same system with Ramirez. Saltalamacchia could play 1B but wants to play catcher, and switch-hitting catchers don't come along too often. It'll be interesting to see what happens with those two if they end up together again.

According to WSCR 670 out of Chicago, the Phillies have acquired second baseman Tadahito Iguchi from the White Sox for 21 year-old Low A ball reliever Mike Dubee. Dubee, son of Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee, was originally drafted by the White Sox in 2004 but did not sign.

He will be their second baseman until Utley gets back.

Devil Rays acquired RHP Dan Wheeler from the Astros for infielder Ty Wigginton.

It's not the direction we expected the Rays to go, but this is a nice trade for Tampa Bay, even if Wheeler, who rejoins the team he came up with, is under control for one fewer year (through 2008, versus through 2009). As much as Wheeler as struggling recently, he was, up until a couple of months ago, one of the NL's better relievers for a 2 1/2-year span. He should be a big upgrade in the eighth inning as soon as he turns it around, and he gives the team protection in case it gets a very good offer for Al Reyes.

That Wheeler for Wigginton trade is so weird. Contenders were looking at both players seriously, and two awful teams make a lateral trade? Gotta wonder if Houston is looking to send Wigs with someone else.

The Yankees have traded Scott Proctor to the Dodgers for former Brave Wilson Betemit.

Collin Cowherd was talking about this trade on his show and said the Yankee fans were fighting among themselves to be the one who got to drive Scott Proctor to the airport. :birgits_giggle:
