Trae mentioned as a top defender

So he's getting recognized as a top PG, and now a top defender....really wish CCM would just move him to the 2.

"He's very competitive and has great size as a point. Physically, he's just as strong as most frontline guys. He understands how to use that to his advantage."

Not to be that guy but what? I think Trae has some good skills as a shooting guard but "top defender?" Every halfway decent pg we faced last year had a career game. We all talked about it at length. Now he's an elite defender? Glad he's getting props but this editorial is suspect.

I kinda chuckled at this. Really, top defender? I noticed that he is listed as one of the top defenders in college basketball, but not listed in Sportsline's top 50 pgs. With Trae's scoring ability then that is kind of contradicting IMO. I could probably agree on Trae being in the top 50 pgs more than I can him being in the list of top 50 defenders.

is this the same publication that said UT had a top 10 secondary in football this year?

Hey let's take positive publicity when it comes. If you don't think he's there now, then at least accept the praise and hope it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

But yes I was intrigued that he was on that list too. Now go live up to it, Trae! Go Vols!

He is on the top PG list. 2012-13 College Basketball Previews - CBSSports.com He's #41.

I think this team will go as Trae goes. He is not a natural PG... we all know that. So if he can hold is own leading the offense, we're going to be awfully difficult to stop.

Thanks, I obviously overlooked it scrolling through the list the frist time. I agree 100% that he should be on the 50 best pg in college basketball. 50 best defenders, I do not. Glad he's getting the recognition he deserves though.

I'm going to drink the kool-aid and chalk last year up to new position and late season knee injury. Glass half full on this one.

hasn't really shown he can stop a scorer if he guards the 2 and hasn't shown enough lateral quickness to check a quick pg and prevent dribble penetration.

Trae's played a lot of ball. I expect his ballhandling to be better, his feel, his left hand, and D, but not seeing him as a top defensive player

My thoughts exactly.
