Transfer Portal 21-22

Xaria Williams will be a nice pick-up for some team. 6’1” and quick with a nice 3 point stroke. Appeared to have regressed this season a bit. Didn’t play many minutes and was out of rhythm.

Will not be at all shocked if we see 3-5 more transfers out of there. Including Jackson and Carter.

Sadly I could see both of them playing for their old coach at Texas. With Collier declaring they need another big and some rebounding/scoring. I think we will start seeing this more and more. Princeton PG is doing a grad transfer to North Carolina to play for former Coach Banghart.

A little surprised we haven’t seen any Auburn players toss their name in the portal. Guess they are holding their cards until the find out who their new coach is?

Doubt Scott-Grayson would opt to transfer again but she is a nice player. Freshman Romy Levy was good as well, thought she played really hard defensively and she has a nice shot. Very active player that bothered us a bit.

He is a good coach (a really good coach)... But didn’t we read he didn’t tell his team until right before he left? He told his team and 5 min later and it was announced he was the Coach at Texas...

They are probably good and relationships heal but i wonder if they would go play for him after he just up and left last time... it was legit he waited til the last minute and told his team and then rolled out.

I think they would if they want to win. They were recruited to play by a coach who was winning. Now they are not...easy to forget when you’ve got a better opportunity in front of you. Playing at Texas would also help their draft prospects and both could be lethal scorers in the Big 12 with less physicality.

Definitely some hard feelings there when it happened but honestly I’m not sure how else you do that. The modern era is tricky when changing jobs. Especially a high profile job like that. I can understand wanting to be upfront with your players, but I can also understand withholding the information until it’s a done deal. In the days of Twitter you don’t want someone being spiteful and posting something that might cost you a huge opportunity. Or telling them too early and 8 of them jump in the transfer portal and never give the next coach a shot. The way he did it probably gave Nikki a better opportunity to retain the players like she did. A nice parting gift from Vic that she mishandled on the ride home.

Mostly I think Johnnie Harris would be the attractor. She’s the one who would be working with Carter mostly and probably Jackson a good bit. She seemed well loved by her players and is an excellent bigs coach.

Another thing to note that while next years scholly cap won’t count against texas Vic would have to run some players off for the following years if he wanted to stay legit with the recruits in texas... He is at 15 next year WITH Collier deciding to leave... what helps is Jessika Carter would be a senior next year so that wouldn’t hurt but if she needed to stay one more year it would. Jackson would be a junior and would return for the 22-23 season where it would count against the scholly cap... They are talented i would say go for it but on the opposite end it might put off players that were looking at those spots ...

It bothers me that so many transfers might occur after a losing season. I guess coaches better not have a rebuilding year or they may risk losing their best players to the portal. It seems like some who post here are hoping for the worst. I hope MSST recovers but if they lose their best players, it’s going to be tough on the record and recruiting.

It’s a coach’s job to retain the players. MSST was not in a rebuilding phase. They were coming off Final Four and NC appearances with an absolutely loaded roster. McCray could have done a whole lot more than she did with what she had. She caused a rebuilding year misusing extremely talented players. I do not feel bad for them at all and think the players should have an opportunity to find a winning program. They went to play for a team that was at the Top of the SEC finishing 9th wasn’t appealing to them I’m sure.

Indeed, I think they will have some transfers. Would be shocked if one or two of the players down the bench didn’t go elsewhere. Especially with the coaching change.

I believe Vic has also encouraged players to transfer at times.

If you can get Carter and Jackson, you take them. Even if that means that he can only get 1 recruit in '22, those two would be better than any freshmen he could get. There could also be some natural attrition by players who get bumped in the rotation and decide to move on.

Sure would be nice if we could get them both with next year's squad...Would be an immediate challenge for SEC title and possible NCAA final 4 run...🤔🧡
