The same number of spots for hs and juco kids. There's no difference. They all count against both the initial counter limit and the signee limit. But I'll assume you just meant how many spots do we have left for the 2022 class. By my estimation:
We've taken 24 so far by my count (21 HS/JUCO + Mincey & Turrentine & Walker).
We've easily let go of at least 7 early draft entrants + transfers, so we should definitely have the full 7 additional spots.
Between late HS and JUCO commits (extremely unlikely) and transfers, I'd guess we have all 8 spots remaining (32 possible - 24 current...my understanding is we also have about as many as 8 spots available in total counters). But I expect we use 1 for Bru and maybe just 3-4 more. Not much reason to not use the others, but there's just not many guys out there rn. May be better to give walkons deserved scholarships or just leave the 85 spots alone.
But it's very unfortunate we can't backcount the unused annual spots next class. Of all years to have a self-imposed scholarship reduction...
Done at DB? Can't imagine we wouldn't want a solid corner. Maybe they've got more faith in what's already on this roster?I think we have 8 total we can use based on numbers. My guess is we are done at DB. Want to add 1-2 more DL, 1-2 more WR, 1 more RB. I haven’t seen anyone saying we are looking at a transfer OL or LB right now even though it seems like 1 more of each would be a good add.
If Bru announces for UT today as expected that will put UT at 80 on scholarship for fall (this includes OL Robinson who supposedly removed his name from the portal and is staying at UT). So UT could still add 5 more transfers without going over the 85 limit.
The "up to additional 7 spots" expire July 31 unfortunately.Does the year we are limiting schollys not end real soon? Are the self imposed reductions in any way effecting NEXT fall's 85 or 25?
If we can earn all 7 tranfer bonus schollys, can we not count all transfers against that and carry forward whatever is left of the 4 initials from this year for next year if needed before the transfer adders?
I have got to believe we will eventually have 7 transfers enroll at qualifying schools. Hoping some of our outgoing committed guys are waiting on room on the 85 at their destinations. But from there I am lost.
I saw an article about that. They're looking at the 25 scholarship limit in light of the portal. The "up to additional 7 spots" expire July 31 unfortunately.
But it was said this week they may waive the annual limit (I assume both initial counters and signees) for the next 2 years...so this may all end up moot if that happens.
Yes. A whole new can of shiz worms about to be opened up. Guess they aren't viewing it through the lens of Econ 101. Saban about to push out his worst dozen kids and open up more spots for 35-40 man classes.I saw an article about that. They're looking at the 25 scholarship limit in light of the portal.
I don't think they can deal with NIL without legislation... and I don't think that's happening. In fact, the NCAA might well commit legal suicide by testing the legality of setting NIL limits.Yes. Just going to exacerbate the portal. Oh well, it's probably what Saban, and therefore Sankey, wants...so it will happen.
Not talking about NIL. Just transfers. Saban would LOVE no class limits. He'll cut a bunch of guys and load up with a whole new 30-40 guys, they basically have one-to-two year tryouts, then do it all over again.I don't think they can deal with NIL without legislation... and I don't think that's happening. The portal needs to be fixed to avoid things like what UT faced last year and to set specific windows for entering the portal and committing to a new school.
They could just say 30 scholarships per year without regard to where they come from or maybe a maximum of 10 portal transfers.
Yeah, Saban et al are fighting to keep the status quo in some form. I don't think they can win unless a legal limit to NIL is found.
