Only 3 such occurrences have been scored 1-6-6, according to Baseball Almanac. That equates to .4% of all triple plays were what we saw tonight. That’s more rare than an unassisted triple play, which has occurred on 15 occasions.

When my daughter was playing Dizzy Dean at 7 we had an unassisted triple play by our center fielder.

There was a man on first and second. Batter hit a pop fly to shallow center. Center fielder came sprinting, caught the ball, fell and did a flip, got up step on second, and then tagged the runner from 1st in the chest.

The coach said way to go, you just made a triple play. I said an unassisted triple play. I'll never forget it.

Yep! The base runners almost have to be involved making huge mistakes for the unassisted.

If I recall, I saw a triple play turned by Tennessee in the SEC-East Tournament in Columbia SC in 1993.
That tournament also saw us do a hidden ball trick on another occasion

The SS made an unassisted triple play in a little league game my kid was playing about 25 years ago... probably not that unusual for that level but I still remember that play. Way to go CJ!!!
