I saw on the news yesterday that we are sending another 10,000 troops from Ft. Hood back to the mid east so I called my buddy to confirm. It will be his third deployment in October. My question was this, I thought Obama's plan was to remove troops, wtf? I realize he is not "in office" yet and this is still Bush's call but this is not the "hope" and "change" I wanted for one of my best friends.

Do any of you think that this trend will continue once he is sworn in?

I got a friend that was deployed from Hood in October. I don't think they will be over there for a full tour (neither does he). I think Obama will pull them out, but slower than we expected him to. Then again, why would a politician keep his word..

Are the troops being deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan? Obama plans on increasing the troops in Afghanistan...so maybe they are already preparing for that. Otherwise - your comment about it still being Bush's show may be correct....

He did not know the details yet about exactly which of those two. He gets all of his intel very "last minute". He is a Ranger Sniper and squad leader and they apparently operate a bit more covert. His last two deployments were with the regular Third Mountain Division. He did not sound too upset about it, but I really was looking forward to seeing him being finished.

Until there is an official policy of withdraw, brigades will continue to rotate to and from Iraq. This rotation will not stop, it will just vary (ie, one brigade will replace two to three, etc.) until we do not have any presence in Iraq. Unfortunately, Maliki is apparently trying to purge the Sunni's from the top levels of the Iraqi government, one month prior to provincial elections.

He did not know the details yet about exactly which of those two. He gets all of his intel very "last minute" four to six months in advance. He is a Ranger qualified Sniper and squad leader in a scout/sniper platoon, most likely belonging to a light infantry battalion (3/1 IBCT???) and they apparently operate a bit more covert. His last two deployments were with the regular Third Mountain Division.
