Tommy Tuberville's raise angers faculty

Associated Press

LUBBOCK, Texas -- A $500,000-per-year pay raise recently awarded Texas Tech football coach Tommy Tuberville through 2015 has angered some university faculty members, who have been asked to take a pay freeze in 2011.

Facing an 8 percent state funding reduction and with more funding cuts possible, Tech officials killed $3 million in faculty raises for 2011. However, Tuberville's new five-year, $11 million contract guarantees the coach at least $2 million per year.

That's up from $1.5 million in the contract he signed in 2010.

TCU fan on life in Lubbock...spot on.
I guarantee there is absolutely no emphasis on academics. They do concentrate on testing for STDs however

Athletic budgets are separate from academic budgets. Your big D-I athletic programs usually donate money to the academic budget. Texas Tech professors can suck it. If the professors want more money they should try landing a research contract, or go into a more profitable profession.

Tech's athletic budget is in the red. That is why they a) ran Leach off...had a huge bonus coming and b) haven't fired Pat Knight...would have to eat his contract.

Only a handful of AD's are actually profitable. It is quite possible that the professors have a legitimate gripe. Texas tech is not Tennessee or Uconn.

Tubbs gets a 500k per year raise for winning one less regular season game than Leach did the year before. Strange math by the 13th Graders of the South Plains. :loco:

But its more than football. The football games on TV every week are basically a three hour advertisment for your University. Without football the University is not exposed to millions of people, and therefore not a household name. They need to get the marketing dept to draw them a map of what name branding is.

I thought they ran off Bobby Knight's boy.
Nope...still there. The AD retires this spring so the rumor is that Pat will get the axe then and only have to buy out the last year of his contract...they want Gillespie.

Actually, since Tech is a Tier 3 school, you do have a 3rd rate degree, can you not do the math?
Look if you want a journalist hire a UT grad. If you want a doctor you pick a Baylor grad. If you need a vet you see an Aggie grad. And if you need a pizza you call a Tech grad
Gonna take a whole lot more than 3 hours of tv per week to fix that ship. Accreditation Agency Puts Texas Tech On Probation - KCBD, NewsChannel 11 Lubbock | Texas Tech might lose its accreditation - Techsans.net - Texas Tech Forums and Message Board

They need to look on the bright side. Tche will save money on replacing torn down goal posts. This just evens things out.
