I'm looking to buy a tonneau cover for my truck and not spend too much (under $250ish). Any brands to avoid or any suggestions? I've looked on Amazon and found some tri-fold ones for around $200. I just don't wanna get burned.

I've had two trifolds from two different manufacturers. Both were great and will never buy anything else.

Last one I bought was from American Tonneau. Three years old and is holding up well.

American Tonneau Company - Welcome

I got one from there too. I'd really recommend spending a little more for the hard cover. The increased security is worth it.

It's insane how easy they are to install and take off.

I'm
Pretty sure that's the brand the parents bought my brother. Can you let you know about installation in the next few days.

Thanks for the advice, i looked on YouTube last night at installing them and its just 4 quick latch things. I'll look into that brand. And GA i just think the soft ones look better.

Also, i have these panels and tracks, I'm assuming that has to come out or can it latch to the track?

I have a frontier with the tracks. It came with adapters that allowed the tracks to stay.

Take a look at the hard covers that are covered in vinyl. It's hard to tell the difference.

I bought one of these - Extang Trifecta (opted for the canvas). Can't recommend it enough. Super easy to use, watertight and looks great (sits outside for at least 2 year).

It's a bit more than your budget but worth it IMHO.

Extang - America's Best Selling Tonneau Covers

You can get a lock for the tailgate latch and unless someone takes a knife to it they won't be able to get in.

Thanks, but i already ordered one. Im not really worried too much about the security of it, i don't plan on keeping much in there. Just need something to keep luggage dry for traveling and stuff.

I got one for $200 on Amazon.

Yeah i watched a couple of videos, they all look about the same to install. Just a couple of latches and wingnut type bolts to tighten it.

I remember some pickups coming to Alaska with vinyl bed covers with snaps. The first cold spell would cause those covers too tighten up so much, the front of the bed would kink. Not purdy.

Fairbanks. Have you ever visited Kodiak? I've only seen on TV and the stories from the guys I worked with about Bear hunting and fishing there.

Yeah we went to visit back in 99 during the summer and I loved the weather. We spent a few days in Anchorage then went to Kodiak. They kept telling us how many bears there were and how often they saw them. We went looking at streams and dumpsters where they were usually spotted but we never saw any. We also went deep sea fishing and caught king salmon and halibut. We didn't catch any really big ones, my brother gor a 34 pound halibut and I got a 27 pound salmon. I would love to go back.

I spent 6 years in Fairbanks, never seen a bear. WTF! Did lots of fishing around Eielson AFB. Seen foot prints. Not one single freakin bear.

Salmon and Halibut = good eating!

I'm glad I ended up in Anchorage.

I had a canvas camper top on the Tacoma when I first drive up. He canvas was fine but the plastic window was not.

Alaska can be harsh, for sure. But, no matter where you are, it is beautiful.

It's insanely easy.

Be careful though with overtightening and also watch the bedliner scratches at the seams if you open and close it much.
