True Detective is an American television anthology drama series on HBO created and written by Nic Pizzolatto, with the first season directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. Season one stars Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Potts, and Tory Kittles, and utilizes multiple timelines to trace two Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division homicide detectives' hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana across seventeen years. The premiere season debuted on January 12, 2014 and will consist of eight episodes.

Noooo. 1st season was a perfect 10, except for the very end of the finale. I couldn't finish season 2, season 3 was maybe a 6.5.

First season was damn near perfection. Second season I thought was great but wasn't fair it had to follow season one. Never got around to watching season three.

First season was damn near perfection. Second season I thought was great but wasn't fair it had to follow season one. Never got around to watching season three.

Season 3 was really good. Much better than 2 IMO. And Season 1 is now the benchmark for all crime dramas that come on HBO or anywhere else. I don’t know that I’ve seen better TV than season 1 of True Detective.
