This would be a huge change and improvement. I hope they can also work on decriminalizing marijuana.

Trump set to endorse sentencing reform legislation

While the House version was focused on prison reform, the Senate language also includes sentencing reforms. It includes a measure to retroactively apply updated sentencing guidelines between crack and powder cocaine, will eliminate a regulation that makes it a federal crime to possess a firearm while committing another crime, give judges greater latitude to sidestep mandatory minimums for nonviolent drug offenses, and shorten mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent drug offenders.

And now the Dems are against sentencing reform.

'You bet my bail reforms will kill people': Shocking 2007 admission by woke Milwaukee District Attorney John Chisolm who freed Waukesha parade killer three weeks ago on $1,000 bond

  • Milwaukee County DA John Chisolm said in 2007: 'Is there going to be an individual I divert, or put into a program, who's going to go out and kill? You bet'
  • In 2013, his office gave a deferred prosecution to a convicted drug dealer
  • That dealer, after being released, fatally injected a 26 year old woman with heroin then tried to hide her body but was caught
The district attorney whose office let out Waukesha parade killer Darrell Brooks on a $1,000 bond three weeks ago previously admitted he knew his laxed bail policies would lead to killers being set free and murdering others, saying flippantly in a 2007 interview: 'You bet, it's guaranteed to happen.'

John Chisolm was elected as Milwaukee County District Attorney in 2007 and he immediately started advocating for lower cash bonds for criminals, like Brooks - a felon with a history of domestic violence charges who was most recently locked up for running over the mother of his children.

Reactionary, partisan garbage. Using an anecdote that people are currently emotional about to counter the idea that there are too many instances of excessive bail makes the author as dumb as you think AOC is.

I highly doubt she thinks this WI bail was excessive. She's likely more worried about people like Kalieff Bowder (mentioned earlier in this thread) within her district who go to jail for 3 years because of a completely flimsy accusation of theft. Only an idiot would create a dichotomy where in order to support a higher bail in the WI case, you have to accept the widespread existence of excessive bail terms. Also, English law is founded upon an opposite principle (that it's better for the guilty to go free than the innocent to get punished).

Waukesha parade horror made possible by left-wing district attorneys' attempts at bail reform, critics say

Attempts at criminal bail reform that put violent offenders like Waukesha suspect Darrell Brooks Jr. out on the street at low or no cost is endangering communities around the country, according to experts on criminal justice and law enforcement.

Police in cities including Milwaukee, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles are facing under staffing and low morale — in part due to such policies, according to Betsy Brantner Smith, a retired police sergeant and spokesperson for the National Police Association.

"These extremely liberal prosecutors who want to talk about restorative justice, and what that means is is that we are putting the public in danger by trying to give these people too many opportunities to re-offend," she said. "It's incredibly frustrating for law enforcement, and it's just absolutely dangerous for our communities."

Record-Breaking Drug Bust made at Mexico border in California, Mexican citizen arrested: 'Staggering'

Meth, Fentanyl Weighing nearly 18,000 Pounds discovered inside truck

U.S. Customs and Border Protection made a record-breaking seizure of fentanyl and methamphetamine on Thursday, busting a Mexican citizen who was trying to haul the drugs into to the U.S. inside a truck, authorities said.

Carlos Martin Quintana-Arias, of Mexico, was driving a 2009 Kenworth Tractor pulling a 1996 Stoug trailer when he applied for entry into the U.S. at the Otay Mesa, California, Commercial Port of Entry at around 8:20 p.m., the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of California said in a news release.

While the trucker’s manifest indicated the trailer held automotive body parts, an X-Ray machine detected anomalies that required further inspection, authorities said.

A drug-sniffing dog then alerted CBP officers to the rear door of the trailer. Further inspection revealed that among "a few automotive" parts were 6,266 packages of drugs, officials said.
