Trust your eyes not stars!!

It sounds to me like those guys just weren't coached up. I'm not a huge "stars" guy, but were ALL the services wrong that many times? If they didn't work hard to recruit maybe they didn't work hard enough to coach up the talent they had.

Orgeron has said he loves finding the "diamonds in the rough." Look at the teams he has put together over the years, I trust him over anyone.

Yeah he has a nose for talent like a bloodhound tracking something....He'll bring it home one way or another.

O's personality demands a cetain type of player. Certain types of high school kids don't fit that, and some of those may be the so called 5 star, can't miss players. That said, he has proven he can take the 3 stars, and if THEY want to, can be 5's before they leave. Add Monte to the mix and the % goes up even more.

Stars don't mean as much in this situation.

It's amazing to me that anyone in the coaching profession payed attention to the recruiting rankings to the point that they had to consciously move away from it. They have to be complete and utter imbeciles. Following the recruiting rankings for any amount of time leads anyone with any amount of intelligence to realize that they are complete crap and not based on anything that would be helpful to a college recruiting effort.

Recruiting sites serve a purpose. Even Coach O looks at recruiting sites and admits he uses them to get info.

Obviously, coaches shouldn't base their talent evaluation solely on Rivals or Scout's opinion but they are great tools for staying up to date on recruits.

There are hundreds of prospects to keep track of and coaches spend a lot of time on the road recruiting. Having a database of all the recruits that provides updates about their comments, performance in games, injuries or preference in schools is very convenient.

I am sure these sites have there use to coaches. But I don't think you should ever offer a player just off of a ranking on a recruiting service. I think what this staff believes in is film. Heck, they carry around video cameras and record there own. I also think they or Coach O likes game film not highlight tapes from reading his book. All of this takes alot of time and organization. He is the best in the buisness at finding good players. Look at USC hell look at what he done at Mississippi. Now think of what he can do here. I think in a couple of years we will have the players to compete with anybody.

Wow. You really think I didn't already know that? When you spend so much time following recruiting sites that your team suffers because of it, then you are an idiot. Having to give a quote like this is embarrassing:

"That's accurate," UM recruiting coordinator Clint Hurtt said. "We spent way too much time recruiting off [Internet] lists and finding these top guys instead of truly evaluating.
