but how can you not be negative? Seriously?

What cards can you play?

Maybe you could say, this is a good thing because maybe they will wake up?
No. I'm pretty sure that doesn't stop us from jacking up three's or developing a half court offense. It is what it is.
3,000 mile away game? Ugh. Vetern squad. Pretty much the same group that played the SEC a couple of times, went to the tourny a couple of times, played at Kansas etc... That shouldn't happen.

Point blank is this team has ZERO leadership and Pearl has absolutely no control over them. Pearl lovers, you can hate it all you want but I've been a huge supporter of Bruce until now. I'd never jump on the anti Pearl wagon for no reason. His green light shooting philosphy is killing us. Our players never play to their advantage. We do NOT have a point guard that is capable of guarding anyone of talent. Our press isn't that effective. And I'm still not sure why he's playing certain players so many minutes when they obviously don't deserve them. Then you have to look at the basic fundamental things that kids in middle school are learning like making good decisions with the ball and boxing out to get rebounds. How can you not blame Pearl? 90% of these problems have to fall back on him. It's ridiculous that he's trying to win 60% on talent, 30% on getting turnovers, and 10% on luck. If you look back at Pearls first few seasons (with Lofton, Jujuan and co.) we lived and died by the 3 and press. Pearl has never really been that great of a coach. He's great at motivating the community to get behind him and his teams are pretty exciting to watch with the style they play but he's not that good of a coach. I aint saying can Pearl because that would probably be a mistake but please earn your paycheck. Geez. :banghead2:

The last two games we are 6 of 42 from behind the 3 point line. That's 14%

And I sure don't want to hear "It's okay, we have only lost 2 games, 1 to a GREAT Purdue team and to USC, which is bad but we just didn't have it tonight. No big deal" because in reality...Purdue is overrated and we haven't "had it tonight" for about 4 or 5 games. I just can't make anymore excuses for this team man. I use to dodge the anti Pearl threads and everyone on VolQuest pretty much bashes us because there are so many anti Pearl posters but they need to wake the hell up and stay away from the word denial....

The birth certificate.

Sorry. Wrong thread.

ROFL! Great! And after that, send 1/3 of your paycheck to my house before I take you to court and they end up garnishing 2/3 of it to pay for diapers and daycare buddy!

I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing that our history works against us here. He's made it possible to take the next step. He has earned the right to try until he either moves on or backslides. I hope he addresses the issues and gets there. I'm skeptical, to say the least, but he has earned it.

I think the best UT fans can hope for is that if he does not change, and continues with this same crap, which I expect, then his popularity will continue to drop. This will cause him to seek another locale, as he has already whined before about expectations. It will take several years of poor play or a severe screw up with probation, to get canned.

He's not that good of a coach, yet his teams have been consistently better than every other coach in the SEC the years he has been at Tennessee?

I'm not sure how one measures what a good coach is and if he isn't, then no one in the conference is, which means there probably aren't many out there available. By the standards you seem to be using, Bill Self and Roy Williams may be good coaches, but in the years Pearl has been in Knoxville, no one else is. Is Jim Calhoun? Thad Matta? Matta had the #1 player in the nation and needed the refs to get his team past the Field of 32 and the Sweet 16. He's done nothing before or since.

I agree that Pearl bears responsibility for what we saw yesterday, but if you look at his track record the last 4-5 years and say he is not a good coach, then I'm not sure there are more than 5 good coaches in all of college basketball.

Kentucky fired their coach, who dominated Pearl with inferior talent. I am not sure about Brady's record against Pearl, but I would say its around even, and he also got fired.

What really upsets me is that Coach Pearl isn't even upset. He doesn't get angry - doesn't protest to these kids to play harder. It's really strange how lethargic he's been acting on the sideline.

For that matter, Pat Summit has calmed down too much imo as well. She used to get pissed when her team played as bad as they did yesterday. With both coaches everything's fine without a care in the world.

Are you really ridiculous enough to call yourself wise one, yet struggling with the measure of a good basketball coach? I'll just leave you to your own devices as you regale us with tales of regular season wins and Fulmeresque winning % drivel.

How exactly did Thad Matta need the refs to get past the round of 16 that year? I think a Bruce Pearl coached UT squad pretty much handed him that one.
