The first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox: Easter.

The fourth Thursday in November: Thanksgiving.

The Third Saturday in October: Tennessee-Alabama, of course.

They're called "movable feasts" when they are religious, and the annual clash between the Volunteers and Crimson Tide might be considered almost biblical by fans.

Most of the important celebrations in our culture are tied to a precise date: 25th of December ... 1st of January ... 17th of March ... 4th of July ... 31st of October. But some are fixed to a day of the week first, and then adjusted to the right season, month, or moon phase. TSIO is like that.

Is there any other football rivalry, or heck broaden that to any rivalry in all of sports, that meets the definition of a "movable feast"? I can't think of one. Can you?

Army-Navy is lately the first weekend in December, but when I was a cadet, for instance, it was Thanksgiving weekend some years. So it has floated around.

Is the Iron bowl always the last game of the season?
Yes, and the Egg Bowl and a bunch of other in-state rivalry games, as well. But none of them are tied to a specific date, as Sami said.

Go Vols!

The Tennessee-Florida game is sometimes called the Third Saturday in September, but that’s not as widespread or popular as the TSIO.

Bayou Classic (Grambling vs. Southern) was pretty much fixed as the Saturday after Thanksgiving....I think it still is.

Prior to the massive realignments, there were more games like this. Michigan-Ohio State last game of the season,....not sure if it's always been the third Saturday in November though.
Red Sox always have a home game on what is it, the third Monday in April? Same day as the Boston Marathon? I don't think the opponent is fixed.

Red River Rivalry -- Texas v. Oklahoma....appears to be frequently played on the 2nd Saturday in October.
