Who gets more mileage out of their National Championship, Smith or Fulmer? Are they walking the same plank? Who is more forgiving UK basketball fans or UT football fans?

i was wondering if this question would come up.....i watched Tubby last night and he looked like phil.

I think they are on equal ground with the fans for both schools and the mileage they get out of the NC.

But KY fans, like UT football fans, expect more. I will say this, Tubby has more SEC titles since his NC than Phil, that's for sure, and KY will get in to Post season play, again.

I would tell KY bball fans the same thing i have said on this board about CPF...it's not as bad as you might think, it's just not what your accustomed to as a KY fan.

Tubby will be fine, but he's in the same boat as CPF is here. Bruce Pearl could be the Steve Spurrier of Bball. We'll see....

As long as he doesn't start wearing those sissy visors I'd be ok with that!

Probably Phil. However, Kentucky still may get in the dance.

yeah, but i think the blazer will take the place of the visor as the most annoying thing in the SEC.

combine Rocky Top being played every two seconds, the orange blazer and 24,000 screaming vol fans, well, i could see people hating to come to Knoxville.

FEAR the BLAZER. I love it. Everybody is going to hate us....because we're GOOD!!!!!

The Blazer is reserved for Kentucky and Vandy games. The rest of the SEC will just have to fear the atmosphere... and the Team... that is becoming Tennessee basketball!!!

both. if neither one of them had won the big one they would already be unemployed. they are 2 coaches that should be on the hot seat.

I say let it be as it is. Mears meant to use the blazer to highlight the importance of these games to the program. Sorta like the stogies after we beat 'Bama.
I think it seperates the moment from the rest of the season for the kids.
The rarity is what makes the deal special. Let it be as it is...

Quote from another board on Tubby (by a UK fan):

I know that UK basketball has been on a slow and gradual decline. Tubby and the program have lived off the 98 title for too long and DONT say that UK fans are spoiled. UK is a national power and when you compare thier success to other powers since 98 they are not equal. At this rate we will be lucky to even get the best players from the bluegrass state. Walk-ons and JC players are not what UK has been about.

Now if that doesn't sound familiar...

I just started watching b-ball last year. So I have only had to endure one bad season. But imo people cannot compare the two. Unlike basketball, you cant have a bad day in football. If you loose three games in a season in football, it is devastating. Pearl is a great coach imo, but if he has a bad game we think he can pick it up the next game, you cant do that in football. I have read post on here about it may be ok if Pearl looses four or five of next eight, can you imagine that type of football season. Comparing apple to oranges people.

it has more to do with the expectations of the fan base, than w/l's, otherwise i agree 100% with you.

Yea, thought of it that way after I posted.

That wasn't the question!

To answer the original question , IMO Kentucky BBall fans are just as impatient and demanding as UT FBall fans, so I guess they are walking the same "plank" so to speak, as far as mileage out of championships well that is hard to compare for lots of reasons but the one that sticks out in my mind is Football teams pretty much have to be ranked 1 or 2 to have a shot at a NC so in 99.9999999% of seasons that would mean only 1 team from the SEC would have a shot at the NC, basketball on the other hand ...how many SEC teams are predicted to go to the Big Dance this yr? 4-6 and theoretically all 4-6 have a shot at winning it all so just from a percentage standpoint Ky B-ball should be playing for an NC more times than a UT FBall in the same time frame...right?

What's crazy is that he's as good or better than what UK fans have had. Joe B. Hall won only one NC, Sutton none, Pitino one and Tubby one. Pitino probably had the best run but Tubby isn't far behind. He's among the highest in winning % of active coaches, has won the SEC or SEC east every year, has an NC, a final four (I think), a couple of Elite Eights, etc. He went through the SEC and tourney undefeated and lost in the Elite 8 to a Marquette team with Dwayne Wade (who went off in that game) and missing the heart of his team due to injury. Lost in OT to Michigan State last year for a trip to the Final Four. There are only about 3 - 5 coaches with more accomplishments (Coach K, Roy Williams, Tom Izzo...)

Shows you what pressure can do to a person. Tubby Smith has always looked as if he is watching the end of the world. I won't say his players have taken on that character, however I was watching the Kentucky bench and there were alot of players who looked like they were not very impressed with the way things were going. On the other end of the floor, ESPN noted and I agree, that Tennessees' bench looked like a bunch of Intramural kids out playing for their frat house. Pressure is what it is. Some handle pressure and some don't. As far as Tubby Smith, I think his days are numbered, I don't think they will make the dance, playing the way they are right now.

They have a major uphill climb to make the Dance, considering the schedule they have left.

They will get a little bump just for the sake of history. I'm not saying it is right but a KY, IN, or NC bubble team will always make the NCAA.
