I just stumbled across this:

TV Ratings Saturday: Tennessee/Oklahoma Tops Notre Dame/Purdue & ULCA/Texas

Happy to see that our game was the highest-rated thing out there. What really interests me, though, is that by far the highest rated show was the end of Georgia/South Carolina. Wonder if CBS will be looking to move their SEC game to primetime? I'm sure the SEC would be willing to discu$$ it.

A lot of the CBS viewers were there for 60 Minutes, not football.

60 minutes is Sunday.
SEC football on CBS is Saturday. They were there to watch SEC football.
CBS has one prime game each year. That's the way it's contracted till 2018 I believe.

I know I am crazy and a different kind of dude, but I don't understand why the major networks don't run double headers every week.

CBS is showing off-road racing and bull riding before this week's 3:30 game and NCIS (seems like it is on every day) afterward.

ABC has decided to do a weekly doubleheader and I think it only makes sense.

On weekends in the Fall, it's football, football, and football. And for those who aren't into football, I don't know how much of the ratings they are pulling in with the 1,000 other channels that are not showing football.

Hopefully cbs will put our break through win against Uf on prime time! How cool would that be 99?

I have often wondered this as well, it would give them a good piece of the total market. Espn probably made them sign a waiver so they can't.

It's a guarantee.

My in-laws will be in town. The streak ends

Honestly--how do you see this game playing out?

Who wins, and how close?

Just score predictions only, because there's too many ifs and buts and possible outcomes to discuss. Just lay out your opinion (asking because if you have before, I just haven't seen it).

The reason you don't see this arrangement is contractual issues. As a former media owner I know it sounds great but the pieces of the pie are already sliced thin now that the Sec Network is available and the conference can't thrive on table scraps. These contracts in most instances are long term and substantial.

They (CBS) most likely want to keep it where it is.

To also be fair though ESPN went out of its way on its family of network, for over a week, advertising that OU and TN were playing on ABC on that Saturday night. The average, modern sports viewer (whether this be a good or bad thing can be up for debate) pretty much listens to ESPN and watches the games it tells them.

I thought they get two, plus they also have to take the game the SEC puts on the day after Thanksgiving.

Guessing part of it is current contracts.

Maybe a cost thing for the more basic cable networks also? Like, maybe they don't want to put in how much more money it would take for more travel, another weekly group of broadcasters, all the crew, equipment, etc?

(Though now I'm curious if there's a ratings thing...I wonder what the numbers are - outside of ESPN, or including, either way - for viewers staying on the same channel following the end of their current game to watch another/the next one)

It could also be that ESPN has so much more money to give the conference in return that the SEC just doesn't want to give CBS another game each week, too.

Sorry, just thinking aloud here.

Thanks for the info. :hi:
