I don't even know why I attempt to watch some of these network shows anymore. Networks flat fricking refuse to give shows time to build an audience for the most part.

I just learned this week that my favorite network show Life on Mars is getting canned. Well, first off, they take the show off the air for a couple of months. Then, when they bring it back, they change its night as well. Its a 10:00 PM show so its not going to get the mega ratings anyway. This was one of the most well thought out shows I have seen in a long time on network TV. I was really into all of the main characters and genuinally liked them. Jason O'Mara, Harvey Keitel, Michael Imperiola, and Gretchen Mol were all great in their roles on this show. It had so much potential to go in so many different directions yet they yank it. The same thing has happened to other good network shows over the last few years like Eli Stone, Jericho, and many others.

It sickens me that TV as we knew it is slowly dying out. I guess they will replace this with yet another stupid reality show. How many reality shows do we really need on TV? I'll admit I watch a couple myself - I like Hells Kitchen, The Next Food Network Star, and Big Brother. But I don't consume myself with reality garbage - I have to have it in small doses. They are killing a favorite network of mine - TV Land - with that God awful High Scool Reunion show and now they are getting ready to launch The Cougar where a bunch of young dudes chase after a 45 year old woman.

No networks anymore want to give shows time to bloom like they used to. In 10 years I can't imagine how much worse it will be. It seems like each time a clever show comes on the air it gets axed because they actually make people think a little. I just discovered a Fox show from the late 90s called Brimstone that lasted all of 13 episodes. That show was waaaaaay ahead of its time and was such a well written show I can't believe it didn't make it. Then I see it was buried on Friday nights and had horrible ratings. The networks have been doing this for several years now but it continues to get worse and worse.

I swear what I'm going to start doing is not watching ANY new network show on the air until its made it to at least season 3. Then I will get the DVD's and catch up so I don't continue to be disappointed when good shows I actually like get dropped. Sorry for the rant but this is just really beginning to bother me.

They did the same thing with Journeyman. That was a pretty cool show that got the axe. Come to think of it, there are tons of good shows that don't make it for one reason or another. Keen Eddie was one of my favorites for the brief season it was on. But it's not just inclusive to network tv....another really good show that didn't last was Lucky, on FX, I believe. I really liked that one.

I remember a couple years back I was super hooked on "Arrested Development" Very good cast, funny, witty, etc. Never understood why this show was so short lived.

Indeed. Bought the dvd set when it came out. Last I knew, it was running on Sleuth, a Directv exclusive channel.

I was considering the DVD but I heard that a lot of the music is removed/changed. Sleuth is on cable too. I was watching Keen Eddie on it a year ago. Have to check if it's still on.

arrested development was awesome. supposedly, a movie is being planned, but not everyone is cooperating at the moment

Its a shame they didn't give Life On Mars a longer stay of execution but if you can't score decent ratings coming off Lost every week in addition to having high profile actors that probably got paid handsomely, you are going to have to get out of the gate quickly.

That might be what hurt Life on Mars, because it did come on after Lost. You know, after watching Lost, it makes your head hurt trying to figure out what just happened that you don't want to watch another hour long drama. :)

seinfeld didnt get popular til after the 4th season. if it were to come on air at this time it would have been canned after the 1st season.NBC showed huge patience on that one. also family guy was canned after like 2 seasons and now its back on and seth macfarlane just signed a $100 million deal. networks just dont wanna be patient these days

and some decent genes. she was pretty nice to look at, just couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag.

I think Eli Stone must have gotten the ax or pulled or postponed.I went on line to find out and picked up some fan chatter about trying to save the show.To bad if they pull it i thought it was better than Life On Mars! Both shows had tremendous potential IMO.

Arrested Development, Jerico, and Over There are the ones I've been mad about

agree on those. One I liked a long time ago was SportsNight but of course it got the axe as well. I guess an audience can't tell when to laugh if there's no laugh track.

I loved that show. I guess their downfall was they tried to be too serious for a 30 minute comedy spot. I was disappointed, as well, when it got the axe
